Alpine 9855

Any feedback on this headunit ? Ive heard different things, like difficult to navigate with glide bar ?? I had a bad encounter with my brand new kenwood ddx 8017 so I sold it on Ebay. I decided to go without a dvd player & wanted a nice mp3, with ipod adapter so went with the alpine !

Asecndent thanks for your help with the box but could not wait!! the rl-p's are callin me !! so I talked to mike & he convinced me that a sealed box would be more than enough with the power Im runnin to them so I ordered this box a couple of days ago !

1.4 per chamber, He recomended 1.25 for tight sq but if I wanted a little mor spl to go up to 1.5, So I figured that 1.4 would be perfect for my use!!

I do not own one but have played with it many times at the stores. I prefer to have actual buttons.

Mike is a nice guy, and helpful as well. I was thinking about getting an RL-p12, but I am still content with my RL-i10. Plus the 10" leaves me with a little more trunk space.

I prefer HUs with more functionality than bells&whistles.

The deal with the Eclipses IMO is the 8 volt outs and more importantly to me, the crossovers and EQ. Running your system active, getting to play w/ crosover slopes, killing peaks..yada yada yada...is priceless in an audio system.. and have 10 bands of Equalization and some Time alignment can do soooo much for a system.

Sure, just about all of them depending on your primary needs.

Yeah- i have the 9855. It's okay. The sq is decent. I bought the extended warranty for it b/c i knew that i would get the new "9855" three years fronm now..but who knows how crappy alpine will be in three years. I would LOVE to have an eclipse HU, but I just cant bring myself to get a HU that does not have a detatchable face. If Eclipse had a detachable face, then I would have been all over one.

Glide touch is horrible, especially when driving. I prefer my 9833 over anything else that alpine has right now.

no problem. i think you'll be very happy with a sealed rl-p 12. very accurate sub, and if you want a little more spl, just port the sucker and have it tuned low.

post pics when it's done.

The Eclipse CD7000 has a detachable face. They will be available soon.

It's a no brainer then. If I was him I would put some dough down on it right now. That way he could have one of the first ones you get . Ofcourse we all know who is getting the first one at your shop .

dont get me wrong alpine makes good headunits too. But eclipse just kills it, they have features beyond belief. Most alpine headunits are very simple and features are decent. And they last a long time if taken care of properly. I didnt really like the 9855 at all. Due to it being in black and white. That really turned me off. If i were to get an alpine id look into the 9853. But i have my eclipse 8454 :P .
