New car opinion....

Just a quick early morn post...

'06 4Runner limited, or '06 Pathfinder. Both loaded of course.

Thoughts and why?

Have you taken them for a spin yet?

I like Toyota trucks. And I think (haven't actually checked) that the 4Runner will hold a better resale value. If everything else is the same, I would go with the car that kept it's value over the long run. The crash worthiness seems the same, 5 stars, but I think this comparison has a few things that tip favorably for the 4Runner.

Reasons to get the Toyota:
8 cylindars on the Toyota, vs 6 on the Nissan.
Tows 7,000 Lbs, vs. 6000 on the Nissan.
Slightly better MPG (16 city) on the 4Runner vs. 15MPG on the Nissan.
Vehicle weight is less (4,500) vs. 4800 on the Nissan.

You might want to check the insurance though, see if that makes a diff.

Don I've driven both cars when we were looking for my next car. Both are very nice SUV's and I think it'll come down to personal tastes. Engine wise, both feels pretty similar, despite the Toyota having the V8 and the Nissan with the V6 (Nissan have more HP, but Toyota have more Tq, but only 15 ft/lbs more).

Either way it's going to have a truck feel to it. Though Toyota seems a little better at the supsension game for SUVs.

I agree with just about everyone else, it's going to end up being a personnal preference... though 9Nails had the best suggestion. Go see what insurance will cost first.

I just test drove a Pathfinder last night . My dauther's birthday was on Friday and there were a bunch of girls that spent the night. My son and I went out for a while to get out of the house . One of our stop was at the Nissan dealer. We ended up taking one out for a spin. I thought it was pretty nice and responsive. A little roomier than I thought too. I have not looked at the 4Runner, but I will now . Either way the Nissan is a nice SUV. We originally had thought about getting an Armada, but it's pretty darn big.

Hmm I really don't think you can go wrong with either.... probably get the one you can get the best deal on. BTW my dads in the market for a car, how much are you gonna sell the alti for? Or are you going to trade it in?

Between the two, personally I think the 4Runner is more luxury than the Pathfinder. Just feels more confortable inside.

Towing isnt an issue, nor is power/torque as this will be the wifeys car, replacing the current '03 3.5 Alti. We were actually even considering the V6 rather than the 8, only due to gas mileage, although it is extremely minimal.

Why do we need one? ....two kids and alot of crap to carry around. SUV > Altima.

Insurance isnt a major concern at all. We currently pay about $1400/yr for both the '05 G35 And the '03 Altima, both full coverage.

I hate to say it but you can't go wrong with the 4 runner. My dad has had his since 99 and no major issues since.

You know the Highlander isnt' too bad either, a lot better mileage, great handling (car platform vs truck) and there's plenty of room for 2 kids and stuff.

We looked at, for a brief moment then quickly went back to the 4Runner. Space was definately substantially different. Dont get me wrong, it was nice, just not a 4Runner though.

True... there is a lot more room in the 4 Runner. The wife loved the ride quality of the Highlander a lot better, so we went with that. We got a Limited with V6 and AWD. It gets around 21/29MPG after dropping in a K&N filter.

I would much rather had the 4 Runner though (better body styling)

i dont have specifc exp. w/ either vehicle...but in general i have gotten the impression that nissan > toyota in build, re-sell value and cosmetics. But this is, of course, just my personal opinion.

Stick with the Nissan family! I like the new look over the older Pathfinder. It's like driving a smaller version of the Armada. Did you consider the Infiniti line?

really..please elaborate. It seems to me that Toyota is much like Nike....they try to make a little bit of everything and therefore make nothing really well....

I'd be interested in hearing the facts though.....

check the past 10 year's issues of Consumer reports and see how toyota reliability vs. nissan....it should be quite apparent that toyota's are more reliable in general than nissan's.

I would definatly would go with a 4runner. I love Nissan, but when it comes to the SUV and truck dept, I feel that Toyota makes a better product. The 4runners, IMO, have better quality interiors than the Nissan. My opinions with the Nissans r from the '00-'05's...I haven't personally driven a '06.

nissan buddy...the engine differences are minimal Id have to go with "The LOOK", my dad has an armada and a commander ( I would have to say that the pathy ) definitely is more user friendly than the armada, and looks so non obtrusive in comparison.

I Love the Armada, just too big for her and of course with the rather larger price tag as well..

We drove the Murano as well... I wasn't that impressed. Though the power is nice with the 3.5L... the thing still had a little truck sway though having the car platform. Plus the mileage pales in comparison to the Highlander.

Love the look of the new Pathfinder. That would be my choice (but I will say that I've not driven either as of yet).
