So I got my 8445 in the mail FINALLY....
...and now its time to think about some comps upfront to replace the Infinity comps I have currently (haha bet you all came in her looking for pics...that's later after I get the deck installed
)
OK...so like i said I have Infinity Reference 6.5's in the stock locations w/ the tweets in the door panels. At first I liked the sound OK...but after some time listening I feel that it seriously lacks midbass. [Oh yea...I am running them off of an Eclipse 4 channel - about 35 wrms into each channel.] So, help me out here. I am mainly looking for a nice, full sounding (warm) set that will give a fuller sound inside the car. Right now I have highs inside with a punchy bass from the trunk....so I am looking for a better blend. I see CDT, DLS and Rainbows recommended alot on here and I'm just wondering what you guys might suggest for my application. I am not concerned about going active....passive works fine for me (for right now). My future plan is to pick up a 4 channel Arc amp to replace the Eclipse...but for right now the Eclipse will be running whatever comps I drop in. I mainly listen to rap/r&b/reggae/jazz and blues. So, I am looking for a set that can handle a wide range of play.
P.S. Sorry about making yet another "what components should I buy?" thread - but I need the help (I confused myself with everthing that I was reading lol)

I highly suggest getting at least a small amp to power your components.

What is the budgets here for the comps? This would help narrow things down a bit.

the DLS (at least in 2way form, the 3way sets cover this issue fine)
Best way to assimlite Profi's sound is Seas -like snappy/accurate midbass
, Focal-like midrange , and highs....well I cant say I've heard better compact
soft domers than the cal 26/27's...Although Don's Esotechs are pretty fine tweeters in their own right but we are talking a diff $$ ballpark.
Truth is you cannot go wrong any of the above mentioned...for the price they are great performers and worth every penny. Give them all solid doors w/ deadning and ample power they will impress with midbass. Once you get into the $300-500 range speakers install and tuning skills will provide greater reward than the speakers themselves- because again we are talking about the car-the worse acoustic environment.
This is just my opinion, take it for what its worth.
My money would be all over the silk Profi's.

More experienced ears would like to see better midrange clarity and vocal intelligibility out of

But i'm sure a few orgers could tell you who've listened to my fronstage setups have nice things to say about my tweeter choices over the years.
After all the talk about killer midbass and subs, one thing is for sure- nothing makes a more lasting impression, evoke emotion and connect with the listener as does the trebble character of the speakers. And man these silks have put many smiles and grins on peoples faces.
No blast on anyone that owns any of the following as they are great speakers in their own right...but I personally know many that have gone from Hex's to Profi's, a few from Iridium 6.2's to Profi's and even coming from Dyns...to be very happy with the Profi's and favor its tweeter. I'm not stating this to clasim any is better than another but rather give you insight in the type of sound to expect...
I find this mans post to paint a perfect picture on what type of sounds appeal to us ..
