Nissan Sterao won't play loud after swap

I swapped a Nissan (non-Bose) AM/FM/Cassette/CD into my 97 GXE. The wiring in the rear was a perfect match. Everything is fine except that it does not play very loud. It plays about 1/4th as loud as it should. Its also not very clear at its loudest.

I have aftermarket speakers in the doors. They are nothing fancy but not bad. Volume is the same through them and through rear stock speakers.

Anybody know what the problem could be?

different ohm load more than likely.

If you have the radio installed and the only difference is the speakers. I would have to say check the ohm load with a dmm. Also check to see if the speakers are blown.

Yup this is what it sounds like, but may not be the case. Go back behind the headunit and double check to make sure all of your connections with the harnesses are tight. Check all the speaker wires as well behind he doors and on the rear deck.

Thanks.

Its definately not a Bose. It seems like its missing an amp though. I'll check the leads tomorrow.

I don't think the speakers are blown. They worked fine with my old unit. The difference was obvious as soon as I made the swap.

I replaced the original Nissan unit that had AM/FM/cassette. The old one sounded fine. I just wanted to upgrade to CD. The new unit also has a setting for remote CD changer. I don't know whether that information helps identify the problem.

What kind of nissan did you get this new unit out of? Sounds like this new unit was used in some sort of active speaker system.
