since DLS no longer carry the UR6's (they have the UR6S now)...i'm back onto the drawing board in terms of front sound stage. so for around 300 to 350, what would you guys get?

i was thinking of the ascendant audio's new components with the Vifa tweet, but they won't ship til march

Alumpro ALC6.2's

Made by Rainbow in Germany

Audiophile xovers (biamp, biwire, tweeter attenuation- you can even add dual mids!!!!)
Metal Cone drivers (to match tonality of your RLP)

Silk or aluminum dome tweeter- i like the silk myself..

Kick *** IMO. Very lil' competition in its price range IMO. Hard to tell the diff between the older Pro Vanadiums and these-good value.

All metal tweets need tuning. Reflections are much more severe.

On the other hand I dont find them ear bleeding harsh, more like on the bright side- but i do find the Rainbow aluminum domes to be a tad warmer than say the Focal or MBQ tweets. I will admit nothing beats the high freq extension of a hard dome, but it doesn't always translate to great, enjoyable listening.

Me? With the plethera of great silks available, I'll stick with silk/fabric...easier to tune, softer on the ears...

yeah our HT setup all have silk domes, and the BA's i was running have a kortec material (pretty much have a similar response as silk). i've heard a few component sets with Ti tweets...they're a bit too harsh for my ears. i mean i can listen to them, but not for very long periods before the back of my eyes start to hurt.

Hey Manny, if I may ask, how do metal (aluminum) mids compare to natural fiber mids in sound quality? Do the same thoughts apply as they do with the tweets. (brighter, not as warm, but with the right tuning they can be just as pleasing, if not more so)
Reason I ask is because I'm trying to decide between the Germaniums and the Profi CS265's.
Thanks and sorry for jumping in.

For midbass aluminum cones rock! Literally the leading edge of the guitar, attack and decay of the instrument is much more lifelike. On a cone driver, the aluminum contributes to increased stiffness- which is very desirable- also midrange is very rich sounding but of the drawback to 99% of metal cone drivers is that cone breakup is reached earlier than other cones and require a notchfilter - but we are talking components with engineered xovers to maximize the useable bandwith of bot tweet/mid-so no worries. Then theres the people who absolutely love a paper cone and its colorful yet warm sound, but with that warmer lower midrange also comes at the expense of some carboardish sounding kickdrums.

All these things are from the outside looking in- a few bands of eq on your hu can tune any of the puppies just right.

I say if your budget allows for Profi's, dont pass up the opportunity to live with the Cal26silk tweeter- You'll thank me. They are a fine set, not much room to improve.

IMO

Profi= world class tweeter, very good midbass, good xover
Germanium= very good tweeter, great midbass, flexible xover

Honestly can go wrong with either. Trust me many would wish to have the options/dilemma you have

maybe they are fat? lol I mean if the budget is $20-30 lower and you can get a good audio upgrade for that small amount of cash, why not? In the long run you might save $ by not wanting to replace the components/subs you got for that minor $20 upgrade.

Obviously i cant speak for what you desire or want to spend...but hey new car? I'd want to remove those door panels just ONCE to put in the speakers I wont feel like upgrading- at least for a whiles to come..

I guess what i'm saying is- why rush? If you dont have the extra $50 wait on it until you do...you'll be happier in the end.

But my opinion, take it for what its worth...you are running 1kw to an RLp15"- choose wisely... IMO something cheaper like SLC or UP6's is not going to give you the volume, nor overall balance and edge to keep up with that ****.

I think these guys are giving you very good advice. Wait a little, save the cash, and put something in there that you will be happy with (at least for a good while).

yeah, guess i'm rushing a bit . i have all my audio stuff sitting in my room, with the big 'ol sub sitting on top of the box. it's like a constant reminder to get a system asap. i have everything, except new front sound stage.

and yeah i'm aiming for balance. in the 3rd gen, the BA's didn't really keep up with the sub, even when fed ~80 watts from my fosgate amp. now i have the 2100-xxk to power my new components. so i'm throwing the BAs into the back for rear fill.
