5th gen front door speaker install help

I just installed 6.5 polk dbs in all the doors. I've got a brand new pioneer head unit. But the front speakers sound like **** for some reason. The highs are fine but the bass distorts even at a moderate volume. I've heard these speakers in my friends car and they sound great. I simply just cut the harness connector off, and sodered the wires together. I've noticed though that the stock front speakers have a cross over system. Should i have done something different when doing the install?

the wires are connected correctly. The factory tweeters are still playing, and i'm wondering if that could be stealing power that would other wise be needed to drive the 2 way 6.5, which in turn is making those speakers sound weak. Can anybody confirm this? PLEASE!! Its driving me nuts!!!

Check the polarity of your wires.

Also, if you're just powering those speakers off your HU alone, it WILL distort at louder volumes, guaranteed.

Does your friend have his speakers amped?
