Sealing the back of door mids enclosure on a 98?

I swear I have spent alot of time searching for this info. Maybe I have poor searching skills.

I have a 98 non-bose and the plastic Mid mounting enclosure in the door is open on the lower back side. Can someone help with the best way to seal it off. Plastic?

Also the new mid woofer protrudes out about 1 cm past the mounting. Will this come close to touching the factory grill in the door panel?

Thanks alot for any help.

Not sure as to EXACTLY what you are asking but lemme try. Are you talking about the big hole towards the rear of the door? Sealing that? Dependant on how **** you are, you could use deadening or some wood (maybe treat it for moisture) or plexiglass like I did....Here it is hot glued in...

then further sealed up with some raamat...

OK now for the other question, I'd strongly suggest forget about the plastic mounting that the original speakers came with and make some MDF rings. The great thing about the 98's is that there's room for a double 3/4" MDF ring (1.5" ring) if you're using a big speaker and need extra depth, like I did for the big 8's....

Gosh now that I think about it...it was a LONG time ago when I got rid of the plastic baffle that the stock speaker was mounted to, but now I'm thinking I remember it having a back to it, right behind the speaker. If sealing that is what you're asking about, forget it. Get rid of it. You want your midwoofer to have lots airspace, like your whole door. Seal off and deaden your whole door, use an MDF baffle, and you'll be good to go....

Definately mat cause it's great at covering little holes and for me, less messy. Both would work for deading, I'm sure (weight is weight). I've used both and definately prefer mat. Consider raamat from raamaudio.com or second skin.

yeah on that plastic thing, let it go. if you cant cut the rings get with don or someone, hell order em off ebay. I used em for the first month just to test out between the speakers I had on hand and trashed them as soon as i finished.

And steve, they have the whole bottom open almost like its in there as an umbrella.

Yes it is yes it is. But soon enough after the 4th gen is set with what I want in it, I'll probably be rolling a G around your way to work on. Being out of work 2 months doesn't help much.
