Satelite Radio

Did you guys hear about the new way of brodcasting radio?
Well it will be brodcast over satelite. One company is is called XM, to recieve the stations you will need to buy a new head unit which will go for around $350 and up, then you will need to pay a monthly fee of around $10.
Would you pay that much just to listen to more radio stations?

This has been in the news for at least a year. Asking If we would pay ten bucks is like asking if we would pay ten bucks for cable tv instead of broadcast tv. And the difference is similar. You will have about 50 stations. The signal is supposed to be better which means no midbass overkill and the high frequencies should extend to near CD quality 20kHz. Also you should have the same 50 stations anywhere in the country. How good is the satelite coverage? is another question. Only time will tell. But it may be as pitifull as most cell phone coverage which means every time you go on a trip you will be paying for service that goes in and out. And you may not have the local news, weather and traffic for which most of us use am/fm.
