Updated trunk setup. **PICS**

What's up everyone!

If anyone's noticed, I haven't changed my sig about what subs I'm running.

Well I got everything set up! Check sig for model numbers.

Here's the pics:
http://www.eden.rutgers.edu/~nbalani...g/CIMG2433.JPG
http://www.eden.rutgers.edu/~nbalani...g/CIMG2435.JPG
(server may be slow + large pics, sorry)

I love how it looks in the trunk, but not 100% how it looks behind the seat. I may play with how the amps are mounted. PS I know, my trunk needs a vaccuum.

Will post a review of the subs when I get em correctly running/tuned.

Thanks Don for the equipment, late night carpentry, and the idea of how to level out the box.

Comments welcome!

Looks good! I like how you mounted the amps! is that just on the back of the box or is that a seperate amp rack?

Thanks guys.

skierxx, I haven't forgotten about your diagram. When I get some free time and I'm bored, consider it done.

What I did (with the help of Don/his table saw) I made rectangular pieces of 1/2" mdf the exact size of the amps. I carpeted them, then screwed them to the back of the box. Then I mounted the amps to those.

Manny, I think I still like your double level'd setup better. The corners of the amps still are outside of the skihole opening, which is definitely deep enough for 2 amps placed on top of each other. If I did it your way, I'd be able to push the box back another 2-3 inches.

They definitely look REAL nice and clean, can't wait till I get them to sound great too. This weekend I should have some time to double check my wiring, it sounds like they're out of phase and hitting into the box.

Keep em comin'!

I was thinking your subs were out of phase too, because there's no reason for them not to sound good.

I like this setup, simple but very very good looking. Good job bro.

Hey man dont worry about it.

Edit: If they are out of phase just reverse the speaker wire on one sub and if they get louder bingo they were out of phase.

Yea but we got rid of the terminal cups.
So I have direct speaker wire siliconed through the side of the box.

It's a PIA either way.

Yea, neither can I.

As much as we may plan, It only comes together as it's being done.

BTW you guys can check out my entire system revamp in this directory:

Nice and clean, can't ask for more. I like the way the amps are mounted.

By the way your trunk looks way cleaner than mine . One of these weekends I will be getting a new trunk mat, and clean all of the sand from around all of the corners .

Yea I'm a bit meticulous. I feel that even the visible RCA's on my amps are too messy for me. My interior is proof of that

so you just have two sets of wires out of the box?

use a nine volt battery, touch it to the two wires (positve on the batt to the positive wire, or which you believe is) do the same for the other speaker. THat will give you exactly pos and neg, then you can hook em up and come report back in just a few minutes with a proper review

Either way I've gotta remove the subs.

The subwoofer connections on the amp are outside of the skihole, rendering them basically unaccessible.

The box is mounted to the floor from inside, then the subs were installed.

I'll do it this weekend, cool your jets everyone

How exactly did you secure the box?

Don helped make a platform that straddles across the very back edge of the spare tire well.

It's 2 5inch blocks of 2x4 on each side, then a piece of half inch mdf thats like 30 something inches across by 5 inches deep. That is screwed to the blocks, which are screwed to the trunk.

The trunk mat layed on top of the platform, creating that ledge. It also leveled out the box. Then I set the box on top of the ledge, screwed it down, then installed the subs.

When I get back to my computer I'll post pics of the carpentry work.

Sounds great Nilesh. Definately post pics.

By any chance did you pull the subs to check the phase?

Pics of how it was done:

http://www.eden.rutgers.edu/~nbalani...g/CIMG2437.JPG
Bottom right corner is the spare tire well (I made a flushmount board to replace that flimsy fiberboard a while ago) Left side is the liner of the trunk wall.

http://www.eden.rutgers.edu/~nbalani...g/CIMG2438.JPG
(Notice the screw that mounts the box down )

Any questions, I'd be happy to answer them. I like how the setup is very simple yet effective, and does not add much weight at all.

So before that your box sloped downward by the seat?

It would have sloped downward into the trunk. So if it toppled over, the subs would be facing downwards in the middle of the trunk.

Got my car into Don's garage for a little bit this morning.

One of the subs was out of phase, and the amp was crossed over too high.

Problem solved

Will post a review after the subs warm up, I'm breaking them in currently.

Lol my car sits in the parking deck during the week. I hardly use it when I'm at school.

And isn't standard break in about 20 hours?

breaking in subs is not really needed IMO. I know some ID subs need a break in according to the manual but I would just run them normally then beat on them whenever you see fit. most if not all good manufacturers test the sub prior to shipping anyway.
