DLS Reference W710 subs installed - opinions/review inside
I did quite a bit of driving this weekend and had the opportunity to test out the subs.
Before reading, please check the sig to see what I have them running with/by, etc etc.
First impressions of the subs were that they were great looking, right out of the box. Standard gloss black was exactly what I was looking for. It seems like the glue machine at the factory was being a little generous, there is a bead around the inner cone, and a small smear of excess on the rubber surround.
I've got them in a standard sealed prefab dual 10 box, although it is recommended they are ported.
These subs are SQ oriented, although they do not lack in the SPL dept at all. Hit nice and low with the r&b/hip hop, and are very controlled and punchy with the techno/house beats. This may be attributed to the great damping factor of the amp, mind you. For the type of music I was looking for, I feel that 12's would have been too boomy for me and opted for the 10's. Could not have been more right, as they compliment tight house beats very well.
I am very happy with them and doubt I will be changing out for a while. They mesh very well with my SLC's to create the full range of sound I was looking for.
