o yeah, im looking in the neighborhood of $140 or less, is this doable? thanks

What models of Alpine speakers do you have? Definately get rid of that Aiwa stereo. Look into Alpine or Eclipse. I
have Eclipse in my Max and it has the cleanest internal amplifier on the market. Depending on how old the speakers are see if you can exchange them where you bought them at.
If you can exchange them get the Eclipse 6" model 82641's
Depending on where you live I might be able to refer you to a dealer that might take care of you...
Let me know,

let's see, i have Alpine SPS-1629S if that means anything to you. here are the specs of it:

-coaxial 2-way speaker system
-6 1/2"
-120 watts peak ~ 30 watts RMS

i bought them from Tweeters (i know a guy that works there) and standing in the speaker booth, these speakers sounded great. my friend that works there said they are pretty good and are the latest model of them. so i am assuming that they are good. they listed $90 a pair retail but he sold it to me at wholesale for $60. so, on with the head unit. if i get a good one, will it make my car sound better? my sister has a 00 accord coupe with premium sound system. do you know if it has an amp or if it runs straight from the HU, because it sounds really really good. hard bass, good highs, sounds perfect. im just blabbering now, but are there any good HU's for under $150? alpine maybe, to go with the speakers...and will i need an amp too? i dont need anything fancy but i want my car to be heard, like my sisters stock system, at least. thanks for listening to my whining.

what are you looking for? Bass or clear highs or all around? if you are interested in clear highs then get a component system. i have a MTX 8000 component system in my max and it really helped out on both ends. the tweeters are extremely clear at any volume and the mids deliver solid mid range bass. its all in what you want.

Ok. i know this might be a little advanced but here it is:
1) keep the head unit and the speakers, theyre a good start.
2) invest some money in a decent 4 channel amp. Something reliable with at least 50 watts a channel can probably be had from ebay for about $100
3) This is the key thing here..install sound deadening in the doors and rear deck as much as you can afford. Mount the front speakers on an mdf cutout ring (baffle). If you do just the #3 i guarantee you your speakers will sound better and put out more bass and distort a lot less. If anything, do the #3 first and then save money for an amp for your speakers.

For info on how to deaden your doors and rear deck visit my homepage.

Hope this helps

Anton

If you amplify those Alpine 6"'s you may blow them. Stick
with the speakers, dump the deck and get an Alpine CDE7856.
Talk to your buddy at Tweeter about price. Retail on it is
$169.00. Add the Alpine MRV100M mono block amp to a single
10" sub in the trunk. See what your buddy at Tweeter will
do for you (mention friends/family price)
