video out head unit question

I am thinking of getting the microvision lcd and was wondering if the lcd only displays video when watching a dvd movie.

Are there any head units which would also display video while listening to the radio, cd, mp3, etc? They would list the title, time, etc.

So - if a head unit has a 'video out' does it generally mean that it is only meant for dvd playback?

My Alpine 9860 displays track number, title and artist if there is one encoded on the disk, and where you are on the song. Not volume or time. Maybe there's others cause thats not the HU that I'd recommend. Can't stand the disk loading time and extra second lapse when scrolling from song to song....
