Amps in 2001 Bose system?

Quick question...In the 2001 Max with the Bose stereo, does the headunit power the inside speakers or is there a separate amp? I am asking becuase I have heard the headunit powers them however when I look in the trunk I see all the wires from all the speakers going into the amp...

Separate amp in the trunk for all 4 speakers. The HU simply provides for signal.
