I plan to do a stereo within the next 4 weeks....800 budget...get in here!

Hey guys, looks like my trans am is sold. We finalize everything on Tuesday. Assuming it goes through I have about 800 bucks to spend on a stereo, maybe a 900. So lets say 600 to 700 since I will get the HU through my brother since he gets them cheap.

At this point I'm open to suggestions on the door speakers. I like the Alpine TYPE S I think is what they were. But I'd be willing to listen to just about anything. At least in the beginning the speakers will be running off the HU.

The real question is what sub to get. I want an 8 inch replacement sub so I can mount it in the factory location. At this point the three best free air subs I've found appear to be the Fosgate Punch Stage 2, the Kicker Comp and the Infinity Ref850W. I plan on hitting the fosgate or infinity with 150 watts. The kicker with about 60 watts. Based on what each company recommended for my application.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Recommendations?

I have a nice kicker 2 channel that could power a sub or a frontstage. with that budget it will be nice. what about an alumapro free air sub?

that would involve cutting and stuff...umm...not really my thing

I basically wanna use the stock locations. If I put in an 8 and it just sounds like trash I might put it in a box, but hell guys, from what I've been reading any of the three subs will sound better than the bose sub. But I'm here for suggestions so if I'm wrong or off base let me know.

Well guys I guess free air is out. Perhaps I should get 8 and just box it?

edit: Btw the guy I just talked to worked for alumapro and had a Maxima he said he put a free air 8 in and it sounded better than stock but only marginally so. He recommended 10 or 8 in a box. So I guess thats the plan

Ok...reasoning behind that? Looks like total cost of doing a 10 including box + amp etc will run the total cost up about 100 bucks or so.

NO NO, about 100 more than an equivelant 8 setup. It's gonna take a bigger amp, a slightly more expensive box and the subs are more expensive. My thinkin was get a good quality 8 for 100 to 130 bucks. Equivelant 10's are typically 40 to 70 more + about 15 more for an enclosure and about 40 more, for a bigger amp.

You must have spoken to Mathew, great guy and Id listen to that advice, although the Alusonic 8 does pretty well IB.

Stay away from elemental designs bud. Very poor business practices, though good prices. Not a good company to put your business with.

Dang that sucks

Well guys I think I may have to box whatever sub I get. Should I try the Alumapro free air and see how it sounds? Or should I not even waste my time and go straight for an enclosure?

Here's the sub's I'm considering at the moment...
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=1863

http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=2953

http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=2074

http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=2435

http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=2254

These are in no particular order, but if ED is out then Alumapro takes top spot at the moment. Thoughts on these? Other suggestions?

Try the IB setup and get a very good amp to power it and see how you like it. You may be satisfied.

Have you ever heard it like that? Just curious cause the guy at alumapro tried it and said it was the suck. However, I do think he probably has much higher standards than I do? Has anyone here used this alumapro sub? Its the bottom end of their line.

I think you should call those manufacturers and see what they think of their products being on that site.

Say bye bye warranty...

I've never blown an aftermarket speaker or sub...so I dunno how worried about that I should be?

Theyre very easy to blow, especially when running IB. Maybe your not concerned with a warranty, but you should of it being actual genuine equipment.

Wouldn't you rather have the peace of mind of buying AUTHORIZED equipment? With warranties.

Sounddomain is legit for about 95% of the products they offer. Its a pretty safe bet dealing with them. The only other I would consider over them would be Crutchfield..110% legit, second to none customer service.
