10" BOSE replacement

Hello to all, I am looking at putting an Infiniti KAPPA PERFECT 10DVQ on the rear deck of my max in place of the 8 inch bose that is there right now. I would think that it should be pretty simple to do...just some tin snips to make the hole larger. Anyone done this?? Anyone know of a better alternative IB sub to put on the rear deck? thanks!

JL 8W7 (8" sub) would be bad *** if you got that... probably wouldn't have to make any adjustments to fit it in... and I heard one in other cars and those subs get loud.

Look here. This was actually still on the first page.

I don't think that Perfect 10" is suited for IB.

according to the manual for the sub, it says it can be used in IB applications with no problems, just that the power handling is half of what its rated at. Will a 10 inch sub fit on the back deck? I realize I am going to have to cut the metal back there, but even with cutting is there enough room. Thanks

No need to cut any metal. Make an MDF baffle and mount it to the rear deck. If the Perfect 10" can be used IB, then go for it. Be very carefull with the power. Subs mounted IB have a tendancy to unload at under it's rated lower frequency range. It is a good idea to have an amp with a sub-sonic filter to limit or cut off the frequencies in this range.

Why not just get an 8? I guess it depends on what you want but my new system is loud, clean and so far my two friends that have heard it thought it had a 10 in the trunk.

Are you mounting the baffle/ring to the bottom of the rear deck and on top of the speaker?

Mount the MDF to the top of the rear deck. Cut a hole, drop the sub in.

You can choose how you want to mount the baffle. It is easier to mount it too the top. Remember to use 1/2", as 3/4" is way to big. You will come up with some more ideas when you take it all apart.

The only reason I was planning on using the kappa perfect 10 is because I work at best buy and can get that sub for $117. Like wise deal on an amp. The 8inch i can get through infinity sucks and cant be used IB. I can get Alpine, Rockford Fosgate, and Sony through best buy, but I heard that sony sucks at car audio...anyone have a favorite of those 2? Thanks again guys..also...whats MDF? and where might i be able to get it.

If it were those 3 choices I'd go Infinity too.

MDF - Medium Density Fiberboard.
Home Depot. 1/2" thick sheet, 2ft by 4ft is about $6 or so.

I can get a 12inch type-r for 105. I don't know about 8inch, let alone if the alpine type-r 8inch is IB or not..I know some say I should get the box in the trunk, but I would just hate to lose all that space..I mean what is a trunk for afterall..

I'd go with either the Fosgate Punch2 or Punch3 if you can get them or the Infinity Kappa. The last generation Kappa subs I heard sounded better than the fosgate P2s, however, I've read a lot about the new ones and supposedly they've changed and do not sound as good as the old ones. Ultimately its your ears that have to be the judge and working at bby you should have a place you can hear them both and compare.

You might check employee accomidations. I worked at bby for 7 years and there's usually a LOT more available through accomidations than through the store so you may have access to the full line of fosgate and alpine. A buddy of mine that is the services manager for a store bought two alpine type X's and is powering them both with 1000W rms and he got it all through the accomidations site right after bby started carrying alpine.

anyone know about frequency response in speakers? I bought these alpine type-rs which say they have a frequency response from 35Hz - 25kHz. I was looking at some "better" infinity speakers and they only have 50Hz - 25kHz, Anyone know what you want...I wanted more bass so I thought I was wise in getting the alpines with the lower? frequency response? thanks.

FR is very deceptive. They don't break it down and tell you how many db's it can play at at those levels. You should'nt expect bass from the < 80hz level from door/interior speakers.

Thats what I plan to do, I plan to mount a 8 inch sub and build a box around it. I plan to have it spread horizontally across the rear deck and not vertically so it doesn't take up my trunk space.

Expecting anything less than about 70 or 80hz out of a door speaker gets iffy unless its specifically a midbass speaker. Some of the higher end stuff seems to do ok around 60hz but I think a sub or midbass driver of somekind is what is really necessary to get that low.
