New Ignition Wire

So right now my stereo wiring is really messed up. My ignition wire and power wire are twisted together and wired to the power wire from the car just so i can turn my stereo on. The problem is that the stereo has to be manually turned on and off, which besides being a hassle, i can only imagine one day i'll forget to turn it off and kill my battery.

Has anyone ever had to run a new ignition wire before? I'm not sure how complicated this is going to be.

I think the first thing to ask is WHY it's messed up. Which wires are twisted together? On the car side or HU side? More information is needed.

The ignition and 12v power wires coming from the HU are twisted together and crimped to a wire running directly to my battery. After testing the power wire coming from the cars wiring harness, it was getting like 2v or some ****, so i just ran a new one. Upon trying to hook up the ignition wire coming from the HU to the one coming from my cars wiring harness, i discovered that the HU would not turn on. This is why the ignition wire is twisted my power wire.

Tap the accessory and +12v wires under the steering column. Whatever the **** is going on behind your dash, and WHY for that matter, I don't want to know.
