viper problem

guys i have a problem with my alarma and i dont know what might be the problem...

i have the viper alarm, i think it is the 791... when i got it i could use it from about 6 to 7 blocks away in the middel of new york city or queens... if you ask me, i think that was an amazing distance to be surrounded by buildigns and most of the time having the track for the 7 train along the path of the signal...

well, i work in virginia and i work in a building from about the fifth floor..i park about 4 blocks away and it is in plain view ... before it would start and operate form this distance with no problems and i wasnt impressed since i knew the distnce it worked from in new york... but anyways... lately, my alarm just doesnt reach my car, even though i park in the same spot and all...i thought i could be the batteries and i replaced them even thought they were still showing more than half their life..new batteries and all, still the same... it wont work but until i am like almost half way to my car...

any ideas what the problem might be?? i have had the alarm installed for almost 6 months now and never had a problem.. tha ntenna for the alarm is installed by the windshield ..i dunno what else...

i appreciate any help guys ( and girls ) thank you

hmm to start off I like your sig. you changed the batteries which would have been my 1st guess...maybe it is the remote? do you have a 2nd remote to test out?

So the remote works, but doesn't have the range it used to? I was told that you can increase the range of a remote by putting the remote under your chin and your head somehow amplifies the signal. (no joke) I have no idea if this works, but the folks who told me this were serious.

yes i heard that too...but i didnt have to do that before so i dont want to do it now... i am not trying to increase my range, but i just want to get my original range of distance back and find out why did it decrease...

Thank you

Luigi,

If its still the same unit I installed, theres no need to purchase a new remote. I can simply swap it out for you. Unfortunately that would be my best guess.

Don, good to see you around...yes it is the same unit...so it is the remote going bad then ?? ummm i would have never thought of that... just out of curiosity...what happens to the remote, i mean how did i go bad ?? just dies or someother issue ?? well, i guess it probably is something that just happens...

Don, in the case it does need to be replace, will i have to go all the way to jersey to get it program ?? please let me know and thank you for the reply...

Sometimes..it just happens. Not saying that its definately the remote, but most likely that is the case. No you dont need to come here. Programming takes about 5 seconds.

i had a similar problem when i first got it.. the remote just beeped six times and didnt do anything.. i replaced the remote brain unit and didnt help.. it turned out to be the antenna... then i found out that we got a bunch of bad ones at work when others had the same problem..
