im really thinkin about getting this Alpine one: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1108124880755

the only thing i dont like is ide have to by the $100 ipod cord if i wanted to still use my ipod cause theres no AUX inputs

also, are all wiring harnesses the same? basically, could i buy that deck and hook it to the wiring harness that i have hooked into my jensen deck?

Well, I currently have an Alpine 9825 in my car and I love it, all the controls I need. But you will find that Alpine is not at the top of its game according to many on here. Especially the latest line, I've heard alot of people dissing them. I don't really care what peeps say though. I don't think you can get a better deck for the money. Eclipse will be brought to your attention and I like it as well, and I might go with that my next purchase, but for now I like my Alpine. Shop around for the best price of course. You might find a good used deck in the classified forum from someone upgrading. Anyway, good luck to you.

And to add, your harnesses will not be the same.

The newer Alpine decks are weak. If your stuck on Alpine, try to get an older deck like 2-4 years old. They are much better. I have an Alpine 7977 I got for cheap, and it was the top-of-the-line back in 2001. As far as the harness, if you already have the harness adapter/kit, you just need to splice the new wires onto that.

I think my progression through years went from an Alpine 7xxx in 1998, to an Eclipse 7001 to an Alpine IVA-C800 and now back to an Eclipse AVN-5435.

In Willard's case (for the money), at least the Alpine is going to be better then a Sony.

From someone that worked with Alpine decks for a living the new stuff is just as good as the old stuff. I actually have a 9851 in my SQ car for awhile and it sounded great and worked perfect. HU companies now-a-days are pretty close when it comes to overall sound and biuld quality within and same price range. I know no one want to here that but its true if you can see past all the brand bashing. Heck my GF competed in SQ comps for two years and an old first gen flipout Kenwood and did quit well........go figure. Your best bet is to shop around at local stores where you can actually use the unit. Find out what features you want and how hard they are to get to. Also for some people they want a unit that will look good in their car. Todays units can pack in quit a few features but those features can very quit a bit from brand to brand and even model to model.

Good luck

Unrelated but still need headunit advice

Hi Maxima Forum guys

this is kinda unrelated but was the most recent Bose audio post I could find to reply to..

I have just replaced my 2002 Bose head unit with a 2001 head unit. I have a 2002 SE...

I'm experiencing a reallly strange problem that I'm wondering if anyone has ever encountered with a similar downgrade in the year of the stereo.

When I step on the gas the stereo goes to maximum volume and any time I'm accellerating it maintains maximum volume. As a matter of a fact the only time the volume doesn't raise to the max is when the car is idling... The second I start to hit the gas pedal and the car sets off in motion the volume raises to the Max and does not let me turn it down. If I turn it down but the car is in motion it raises right back up again.

I'm not an expert in Maxima stereo but could this have something to do with the speed sensitive volume adjust in the 2002 not being compatible with the 2001 head unit?

Does anyone know if it's possible to disable the speed adjust volume? Or has anyone experienced a similar problem before?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OR....

Does anyone have the harness pin-out? Usually there is a pair of cables for "Speed Pulse" that the stereo uses to adjust for speed sensitive features.

I would think a detailed pinout of the harness would be readily available but I can't find one in the search. Does anyone have this ? Please ?!

Thanks,
Gerald

That's exactly what the problem is.

In theory you cut just snip the wire going into your 01 HU...the question is which one.

Yup that sounds very logical to me... Problem is that I have found a few harness diagrams but none of them say which wire supports that feature...

The stereo has to be getting this info from somewhere...
also
Somebody out there must have attempted this downgrade.

I have the CDA-9856 in my car, I didn't look too closely at the link you posted, but mine didn't require the $100 adapter for the ipod, it was a new thing and just a $30 or so cord that plugged right into the HU.
