Impressions on Pioneer DEH-P880-PRS please

I'm seriously considering getting it, but was hoping for a little positive reinforcemnt before I do. Essentially I'm curious to know if anybody has one, has any knowledge of it, or would recommend it. As it stands I'm definately down with the form (clean, simple and matches the interior illumination quite nicely) but if it ain't got the function, I'd prefer to move on to something else.

With that being said, I'd also like to know if anybody's had or heard of any issues with it or have gripes about it that might make me reconsider.

Thank you so much

Also curious to know if it fits flush.

Seems like a decent unit.

Where are you planning on buying it?
"Flush" is a relative term. You shouldn't have a problem being it's a standard single din.

From what i hear the unit is bulky and the ***** portrude a decent amount- not quite a flush look type of receiver.

On the other hand its a badass unit IMO. Great unit for trhe money.

It definately is a sexy unit, functions are there and for the money its hard to compare with alot of others. Its also quickly becoming one of my best selling pieces.

Positive reinforcement indeed! Sweet. Thanks y'all. The 880 it is.

djfrestyl: Well, I'm looking to get it from Circuit City. I had a different headunit installed there yesterday, but after doing so, mulling it over, I think it's more than I need. I'm also not really feeling it like I want to (asthetically speaking) but a coupon, gift card, free installation, and a day off from work got me all antsy in the pantsy and my craving to finally rid myself of my stock radio had me pulling the trigger on it before I really had time to rationalize it. Live and learn I guess.

Anyway......

I'm going to have them special order me the 880 so I can do the switcharoo. I'm eating the free installation, but with the reinforcement here, and my own desire for it, I'll be happy with my final decision in the end. It also puts me closer to those Rainbow Profi's sooner too.

Thanks guys.

The CD7000.

As for the 880, I guess they're calling it a "special" order item cause they don't carry it in the store and will have to call Pioneer to get it. None of the dudes at the store have even heard of it or know the price of it so they want me to talk with one of their managers first before they order it.

It's actually starting to grow on me, but I don't know. It's a little distracting at night, and man does it stick out like a mother. If I swap it out for the Pioneer that's an extra 250 big uns to spend on something else. We'll see though, I have to hold on to it for a week till the other one comes so it could very well seduce me.

Mendon: I was under the assumption that it was 5v, same as the CD7000.

I reckon I could have a go at it (never done it before), but I think I'll wait. I don't wanna ruin my chance of returning it if I decide to go with the Pioneer (which I most likely will)

The guy at CC used the Metra 99-7417 kit (I think), but is there a better more compatible kit for it? As it stands, (maybe it's supposed to be this way) but the whole faceplate juts out, giving it a sore thumbish look. Is it possible to drop her a little deeper in there, or because of the face mechanism, it's not possible because it'll catch?

As we spoke via PM yours seems to be an isolated unit, noone including myself has experienced any of those issues.

That and the fact that you have a lil birdie in your ear telling you its bad and the 9255 is Gods gift to audio.

Great unit. Its 5v 100 ohm for anyone wondering.

Pioneers tend to stick out unless you modify the stock mounting bracket. Don't expect a flush fit. The cd7000 is no slouch either. It's a toss up I guess. Should have researched before hand.

I did (didn't consider the fitment of it though) but if I was going to get an Eclipse, it was going to be that one, hands down. I guess you really can't know for sure untill it's in your car so you can look at it, listen to it and really play with it. Actually I'm glad I got it, so now I won't wonder about it if I'd gotten the Pioneer first instead. Ever get something that you really had your mind set on and when you finally got it, wasn't what you had hoped for? In my case it was the CD7000. No harm, no foul though, I've got 30 days to figure it out.

have you all messed with every setting? I rarely play with Eclipse h/u's but they do have complicated features to tune a system. a friend of mine recently found he had alot more midbass by simply switching a feature off that he forgot was on.

This really has nothing do to wiht which unit I am going to switch to. If the CD7000 was the bad *** unit that you made it out to be why did you switch yours out after having for only like 2 weeks? I also know of 2 other people that are experienceing issues with their Eclipse HU's one is a CD7000 and one a CD4000.

I think the Pioneer unit is a very nice unit. Nice looking, but more importantly, good tuning options on it. Having said that, there is one thing that bothers me, and it seems that Pioneer has continued this from the last models. I had a Pioneer DEH-P8600, and the lack of buttons was a PITA. Having to go through menus and submenus to do basic things such as pausing a song, or adjusting the subwoofer were extremely annoying. If you can get by this, then it is a no issue for you. Would be nice to give it a shot.

I have an Eclipse CD8455, and like the Pioneer, I feel that it is a very nice HU. It is very flexible, and has very nice tuning options. Having said that, I am going to give Alpine one more shot (a unit from a few years ago). The method of changing tracks totally sucks on the CD8455. Very easy to skip a song or two with the wheel. My CD8454 did not have this issue, the wheel had more resistance to it. I also do not like not being able to adjust my subwoofers volume in Pro-Mode without going through the menu and getting into the time alignent settings, or going to the non Pro-Mode and doing it there. I listen to alot of different types of music and the bass levels sometimes are very different, and not having the ability to quickly switch the settings bothers me.

I went away from Alpine a few years ago, and I may just be reminded why I did when I try this unit out, but I want to try it out anyways. I really like my CD8455, so I will not get rid of it until I am sure.

Don's sig sometimes represents stuff he has GOING to put in the car. He is a dealer and thus changes everything ever 2 weeks it seems and it's normal.

ASSumptions arent good for ya, the CD7000 is still in my car and desptie the fact that the Nak has a better trnasport Ive been reluctant to change it. Also since picking up Nak its only fair to use and demo the products that I carry.

Can you show me a better performing unit in the same price range that you paid for the 7000?

Funny, I still have yet to have ANY comebacks except for you. With several dozen out there. On the other hand I get quite a few Pioneers regulary as well as others. Eclipse still has the lowest comeback rate hands down.

Man, I don't know what to do. Fryoneers, Alpine not so good anymore, Eclipse bling blinging it out. What in the world am I to do?

Bottom line: I want a sharp lookin unit that's gonna sound good and not jam me in the bung hole by falling to pieces or blowing itself up.

I've got an appointment Friday to take the 7000 out and the 880 in. Do you forsee any deep regrets by doing so?

Also, the Pioneer has a 2 year warranty. If it does shat the bed, can I return it to the place of purchase and have em slap me in a new one, or do I have to ship it back to Pioneer myself? (btw: I'm not getting it at Circuit City, I guess they can't get them because it is a Premier piece, and their not a licensed dealer)

I was gonna recommend the Nak but you have bling tastes like me...IMO either unit you are looking at whether it be the clipse or the pio are fine units. you are getting it from CC and if any problems arise they will handle it with ease.
