Where do you guys put your center channel speaker in a 4th gen maxima? Pics would greatly help me. I'm surprised there isnt a write up on it yet...correct me if i'm wrong.

Because no one really has center channels.

And why is that? Is it too much of a hassle to mount a speaker?

For one, yes.

But even moreso, getting processing/imaging/amplification for a 5th channel.

It is possible, but it will be a quite a hassle, as stated above. It has become easier lately with some of the newer dvd/cd players having a center channel output. I have a center channel, but it was built into my Panasonic cd player.

my eclipse has a 40w center channel out that's why i was thinking of putting a 3.5" coaxial speaker in the dash or somewhere else. I would like to try it on the rearview mirror but it would be an insanely tight fit. Maybe a new project for me in the future.

Pioneer it then do a write up for us.

Usually the requirements for a center channel outweigh the benefits of having them for us. The front comps imaged correctly will provide a sense of a front stage that woudln't require a center channel to be effective and true.

Like has been said, not really worth doing to most. If you want a strong center image, good speaker placement and/or time alignment can do that. A center channel would narrow your soundstage. (and it's a hassle and all that thats' been said).

If you still wanna do it, the easiest way would be this....

or this...

Otherwise you're doing some custom work.

Wow, I never knew they existed but they definitely save a LOT of time, and look pretty good too. Perfect for the 4th gen because there's 3 din slots, and almost as convenient for the 5th gen if you have a single din HU or flip out.

I have an Alpine SBS-05DC DIN sized center channel in the spot where the pop out tray was. (Right below my IVA-W200 double DIN head unit and above the ashtray/lighter) Perfect fit. I love it.

I wonder what the internals on those look like...but yah I saw those a while ago. I was just wondering if anyone took the time to actually make a center channel. Thanks for the info though.

its really only worth it if you have a DVD setup, and are constantly watching movies in your car. even then, a good front stage should satisfy most..

Exactly. Unless you play DVDs, don't bother. I do, so I did. Obviously you need a deck that decodes 5.1 or has an optical out to an external processor that does it. (I use the Alpine PXA-H701 with a Toslink cable from the deck)
