01 BOSE sub cutting in and out

I did some searching but didn't really find ehough info that I was looking for. My factory sub keeps cutting in and out. I felt the amp earlier today and it was hot as hell, the sub has never worked continuesouly (even on colder nights). Is there a simple way to test the amp? I'm an audio noob.

I have had the same problem with my 2002. When I first got it, I had the bose system in there....I didn't check to see if it was working, but all I knew at the time was that I just wasted money for the bose...so I bought a new deck, still no sub, so wtf time..I turned music on...then while the music was on, unplugged the plug into the bose amp, and replugged back in...everything has been working great till about a week ago...I have new speakers and amp for them, I think I am just going to get a new free air sub and amp setup and completely remove the crappy bose instead of dealing with all of these headaches...
