It doesn't fit...

I spent a couple hours for the past two days making this box. It's a 3 cubic foot box tuned to 35 Hz for my Atlas 15 . I thought I would give it a try after talking to AscendantMax Friday night. I put it in my trunk and found out it doesn't fit. It only fits with the subwoofer pointing upright. I'm going to try fitting it again tomorrow. I still need to plug up the gaps in the box. I think it sounds better (as in louder and more thump) than my other 3 cubic foot box tuned to 29 Hz. Seems like it can hit more tones without clipping.

Pointless thread?????

How so? You cant fit it through the trunk opening with the sub facing the rear? Because you should be able to fit a 17" tall box height wise, but I see how getting it in the trunk might be tricky depending on your box.

damn, good job on the box. looks pretty good!

but yeah, trying to fit a trunk into our cars can be a b*tch. my brahma box had to go in at this wierdo angle.

It is very tricky. Definitely a two person job. A little skinny kid like me had trouble carrying it out to the car in the first place. I'll take some measurements and see what's good. My cuts were not that great. Nothing some caulking can't fit. I gave up trying to fit it because it was like 150 degrees today...

Oh and another thing. Is there a big difference between the sub pointing up versus pointing towards the rear?

dammit. thats EXACTLY the box size Eclipse recommended i make for my Titanium 12.... and those were the EXACT plans i was going to use.. ARG!! wtf are the odds.

im glad you made it first though, haha.. which sides didnt fit? cna you point them out on the plan??

it may sound a bit different pointed up rather than the rear, but it would look a whole lot better if it was in the way you want it in im sure. It's probably louder a least a little bit because its a higer tuning.

how much did you spend on materials if you dont mind me asking? did you get hte 2'x4' sheets of MDF at HD or something?

yeah, two people will definately make it easier. what side isn't going in? it should be louder firing into the rear. you barely have any space between the sub and trunk lid the way you have it now.

You cant just tilt it towards you till it lays all the way down? Get some extra hands it should fit....

The way it isn't fitting is the top edge and bottom edge are hitting the trunk openings when I tilt it to try to get it in. Seems like it's too tall, as in 17" high.

That's wierd that you need to use those box plans for your sub. It cost me $23 for the wood. I have/had screws and all other other materials needed in my basement. Do not go to Home Depot and get the sheets of MDF. It's way to expensive. I did that on my last box and I was kicking myself in the butt. Go to Lowe's and have them cut one of their big sheets. They are $20 and do not charge for cuts.

I'm going to try and refit it today.

We all told you it would sound great in a better box.......did you ever doubt us? Your welcome BTW. I knew it would fit....

That box is about as big as the one for my four assassins.....Worth giving up that space though huh?

You definately need more screws in that box.....You should have one every 4 inches to stop box flex.

^ Nah, the screws are there to hold the box until the glue dries. Given it was made porperly and good glue was used ive seen boxes with no screw holding it at all. If you want to stop flexing, use thicker panels & some bracing.

The glue (dependant on brand) is usually stronger then the wood being used to build the box.

yep, the bond at the glued joint is stronger than the MDF itself.

glad it worked out for ya! looks nice in the trunk.

Thanks for the replies! Yea, it does sound way better in this box. Thank you!!!! I might put a couple more screws in, I just wanted to test everything out first. I didn't glue it or caulk it yet. There are gaps like woah in it.

I will let you know how it sounds tomorrow with the caulking.

i would use some good wood glue andjust reuse your existing holes you have made. no need for more screws. let that sucker sit for a few hours and it'll be solid.

WOAAAAAAH My Atlas is alive again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This box sounds so much better then my old one. My eyeballs vibrate now. And I don't think it clips. I'm so excited. I caulked all the leaks last night. I'll check to see if there are any more today, then carpet it.

Thanks for the help guys!!

I will post up a video clip soon. What song should I play?

Hmmm...not LNT, everyone plays that one. Try something that will flex the windows... like Ludacris- Get back (be careful, this song gets low) or Young Joc- It's going down.

Either one should get things shaking. If you want more in your face try Lil Wyte- Oxycotten

Dont play Bass I love you though. That song sounds cool & all but drops some notes well below 20hz. Your sub wont be too happy.

you want good bass?

play DJ Marky - The Brazilian Job - So Tinha Que Ser Com Voce [Original Lounge Mix]

Here's the yousendit. i just put it up: http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.ph...E724484FED6A56

the song is quiet up until 1:48, then a small bass drum kicks in, then at 2:08 all hell breaks loose. it's the one song i play to show people what kinda bass my sub can handle.

let me know how it sounds with it.

When I want to demo my sub, I just use a few tracks from Bass Mechanic. I love having heavy bass cause it turns my seats into custom massage seats.
