Please do not flame! i researched but still am confused
sorry guys, im noob to all of this and am trying to absorb as much as possible reading the threads, but im gona have to ask a few repeat questions cause i am finding different answers.
First of all here is what i want to do.. like most of us.. replace my bose system on a 5.5 gen.. without spending too much $$. At first i wanted to just change the head unit add a sub, mono amp and use oem speakers. but i read that the sound quality would be way better without using the Pac roem adapter, and bypassing the amp. Now if i do that then I will have to replace all 6 speakers right?? im confused cause some people are saying the speakers and tweets are 1 ohm(which means i have to replace them if i bypass) and some people saying its 4 ohm(which would mean that i wouldnt have to replace them right?) if i didnt have to replace them that would be perfect cause i could just do a bypass at the amp and have the HU power the bose speakers.. but if i cant do that and require to purchase the pac adapter, id rather just spend the extra bucks and buy all 6 speakers. Another thing i am confused about is the size of speakers.. some people say 6.5 all around and 1" tweeter will fit in the exact location..and some saying 6.5 for the front and 5 1/4 for the rear.. which crutchfields also says.. which is true? and last but not least.. if i do have to replace all speakers would the HU providing 18Wrms per channel be adequate enough or will i have to purchase another 4 channel amp.. which i really do not want to do.. or is there such thing as low wattage speakers that size? Also will a 1" tweeter fit perfectly hidden under the A pillars where the stock tweeters are.. i assume i am able to use all the factory wiring too.. please help me out guys..any advice or input would be great appreciated! Respect to anyone that shares information on any forum.. u know few weeks ago i didnt know a thing about audio..didnt even know what a ohm was and thought jvc was the best HU.. thru readin on the forums ive learned so much.. madd respect to everyone!

it can be done, with a lil bit of wiring. for starters you don't need the pac adapter if you wire your rca outputs to the bose amp (using the metra 70-7551, or soldering rca connectors to the wiring adapter, on the speaker wires)
then in order to add the sub and amp, run rca's to you amp from the output of the head unit...no different then adding an amp and sub to any other car, just disconnect the bose sub @ the sub
i did it this way for now...speakers are next to come...more then likely boston acoustic
then in order to add the sub and amp, run rca's to you amp from the output of the head unit...no different then adding an amp and sub to any other car, just disconnect the bose sub @ the sub

Get a HU, get some y-splitters for your sub amp, use Metra 70-7551. Call it a day.

If the bose amp does the eq'ing it doesn't matter what signal it gets. Either way just get the 70-7551, if u plan to get speakers replaced then get the 70-7550 and replace them during the install.

I read that the bose amp does some equalization with the signal from the bose oem HU i dont know if it would do that with a alpine HU.. i duno but i think that the sound will be much better if its coming from the alpine HU, bypassing the amp.. do u know if it is possible to snip some wires re-attach them to bypas the amp?
Also, to the above poster, if he uses the 70-7551, the HU's RCA preouts are already being used, unless it has sub pre-outs as well.

thanks for all your input guys.. i think i am convinced to go the low budget way and just stick with a metra 70-7551. so heres what im gona do.. can you please tell me if it will work out ok?
Get a headunit with 3 preouts, 1 for sub, and other 2 to go into the metra harness??(i dont know what the harness looks like or where to get it but ill figure it out)
-disable bose sub, setup mono amp to jl sub and connect rca to HU
-dash kit.. i hear the metra kit is the best.. is that one ok?
-get antenna adapter
and i think thats it.. do i need to change anything with the bose amp?
