pioneer deh-p8600mp question

hey i know its a long shot but i have a problem with this head unit....
the faceplate is stuck in the open position, i dont know how it happened, i just opened it and it wont close now. The unit is about a year and a half old but the car wasnt driven for 8 of those months, so it wasnt used very much. iit still plays and ejects the cds when the eject button is pushed, but it will not close. Has anyone had issues with this unit or have any idea what i could do?

i also dont know the warranty info on this but im pretty sure its only 1 year, i really hope it can be fixed or somehting i dont want to be out $450, thanks

Its a 1 year warranty, sounds like the motor has gone out on you.. Try tapping on the face at the top of it slightly, that may get it to work again. I had a problem with the face not opening so i tapped it on top once and it worked great ever since

I can't really remember if it has a reset button or not, if it does give it a shot.

yeah i originally thought it was the motor, but it never hesitated or slowed down ever, or showed any signs of wearing out, nor was it ever abused in any way, so i dont really know. Im gonna pull it out and see if i can figure out wtf's wrong, Also it was only used for less than a year so if the motors gone, im gonna call pioneer and give them a piece of my mind.......

The motor may not show any signs before this happens it just happens. Thre is a reset button on the front of the unit i do believe. Let me check

OK it is on the right side above the **** press and old that button with a pen or needle or sometihng that will fit in there see if it resets it.

I had that headunit and it wouldnt open and close after a year or so,

i had to bang it on top with my fist so it would open( not the headunit, the dashboard) and after weeks of banging it, never had a problem with it again. worked perfectly, it great headunit btw!

i had a very similar version HU as you and I had the same problem as you, i realized the contacts on the back of the detachable headunit and the contacts on the HU side get corroded after a few years, my HU was in 3 cars, i've had it since 01/02 and this happened to me in Jan.... they cost to much to fix, i would get a new HU

well the motors not done for, yesterday i took the faceplate off while it was on, and a few seconds later, the bracket moved back into the closed position. I thought maybe it was just stuck so i opened it again only to find that once again it will not close. I have the same problem that i started with....

When it did close that one time, it was very smooth and it seemed liek there was no problem at all. Im definatly thinking that the problem is electrical, not mechanical now. I'll reset it and if that doesnt help im gonna take it out and look at it more closely.

sorry, im not gonna get rid of it quite yet, not for free anyways. Why do you want a broken head unit anyways?

reset did nothing, however, i figured out that i can get it to close every time by taking off the faceplate. As far as i know this is the only way to close it once opened up. Putting in a cd or pushing the eject button do dont close it. Any ideas??

No idea, that is very weird I would get it serviced since it's been less than a year.

its a year and a half old, but my car wasnt driven for 8 months out of the year, so it hasnt gotten much use but its still out of warranty. I might get it serviced anyways depending on how much the cost is....
