Looking to buy a JL W7, need input...

I was looking to buy a 13.5 JL W7 powered by the JL Monoblock 1000/1 amp...my price range would probably be around $600-700 for a single sub...

Does anybody have this setup?
Anybody have any input of something better quality for this price range? (I really wanna be heard comming from down the block)

look into a kicker 15" L7, it takes 1000 watts rms too... cheaper than the w7, which is over rated in my opinion.

the W7 is alright. given proper power and a good ported box, it will get quite loud.

if you want to be heard down the block, i would look into subs from Digital Designs. Some of the loudest subs i've heard are from DD.

The MTX 9500 will handle 1000+WRMS and is louder than the W7 also cheaper

Or a RE Audio 15" SX

I believe it's 2500. I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure. They're monstrous subs. I don't think he said he's limited to 1000w, he said he wanted to buy it with the 1000w monoblock.

2 jlw7s ina jetta had the glass flexing off a 1000/1 one which is half power of what each sub should take absolutley a killer and there where horns installed to compete with the w7's

what if you get like 3 alpine x 12"'s, that should be louder, or maybe even two would pull a premium.

also 2 12" Kicker L7's would get pretty loud but if it going into a Maxma size would be a problem if you want to use your trunk as a trunk....

The MTX 9500 is not louder than the W7. Where did you get this information? Bring both subs to me with the same power and the correct box for both the W7 will dominate in clarity and SPL. It is a very capable sub and will handle more than 1000 watts daily and ask for more.

The SX is an awesome sub as well. I recently installed 2 in an Impala SS. They had a Mmats D3000 on them and sounded awesome. I do hope you know a dealer however b/c they have gone mainstream and raised their prices considerably. Luckily I know several.

Unfortunately the L7 would get owned in the SQ category. I am a huge Kicker fan though, and for the money the L7 is a better all around sub. The W7 is far from overated though.

PM Don, Pearl96max, a pair of Arc Flatline 12"s would easily be conparable as far as output and SQ, and would fit your price range. Give him a call as he is local to you.

Man, I wish I could get my hands on one for testing, even dealer is too steep for experimentation purposes. I have heard great things about the 06' version. I have had experience with the older XXX and been nothing but impressed.

Thanks for backing me up. Copied directly from the link provided.

JL Audio 12w7 :
Frequency Response - 110dB cap : 10-100Hz
Average SPL 10 - 100Hz : 127.87dB
Peak SPL : 140.7 @ 54Hz

MTX Audio 9500 :
Frequency Response - 110dB cap : 10-100Hz
Average SPL 10 - 100Hz : 126.14 dB
Peak SPL : 137.6 @ 55hz

The W7 beat the 9500 in every test. Average SPL as well as Peak. Although these tests don't simulate real world applications, because these tests were performed in a room, I think they are accurate as far as performance overall.

My friend has 2 MTX 9512's hooked up to a Orion 2500D in the MTX Sledgehammer box and i am NOT at all impressed with the bass.

My single Orion H2 off RF T20001bd is louder and sounds better.... (my previous W7's did as well)

I can get them for dealer cost, fortunately. But I think I would keep it if I had one.

Peak SPL : 144.3 @ 55Hz

Frequency Response - 110dB cap : 10-100Hz
Average SPL 10 - 100Hz : 128.14

I did some more research out side of these test. The 9500 does outperform a W7 in a proper ported enclosure. It doesn't do well sealed. I stand corrected.

I noticed something funny on the chart, not sure if you noticed it. 9500 is in purple, W7 is in orange, yet the orange line is clearly above the purple. Just a small discrepancy.
