Can you crimp a 1/0 ring temrinal w/o a vice?

A couple friends of mine want to upgrade their big three wires, but I don't have a vice to crimp on the 1/0 gauge ring terminals, what other tool can I use? Also, from the Sounddomain writeup, it said to fuse the althernator positive to battery positive terminal wire, which kind of fuse do you guys recommend? Thanks for the help.

Tried that, and failed miserably as the wire simply slid out ...maybe hit one side first? Then the other?

Got vice grips? Gives you more control.

Type of fuse depends on size of wire. In your case, an ANL fuse would work best.

Your use your teeth on 1/0 gauge wire terminal connectors? Do you perhaps have gold teeth, or just a really high dentist bill?

Try pliers, Thats what I always use.

the hammer method works.

(of if you have weights laying around, drop that sucker onto the connecter. my friend and i dropped this 55 lb dumbell onto his 0/1 connector...needless to say that sh*t ain't coming off anytime soon. )

Man's best tool, next to duct tape of course. I did it this way the other day wiring up a 15 in my friend's car.

Yay, I finally got the terminal on! I gues I was going too easy on the hammer before.

I have always just used a hammer with larger gauge ring terminals. Just to further secure this type of connection, I also dribble some molten solder down into the connection.

So since I am not an A/V guy, I'm guessing to install an ANL fuse holder you just put the two wires in at each end, and tighten the screw? Thanks for all the help so far!

You need an ANL fuse holder.

Well ya, assuming I have one, maybe my post was not clear enough. So IF I had an ANL fuse holder, the installation step is what I posted above right? Minus installing the fuse of course.

Battery lug crimper

West Marine sells a crimper for about $60 that works on up to at least 2/0 wire from ANCOR. It is a spring loades leaver drvice that you strike with a hammer. It is reliable. http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs...allpartial/0/0PS Ancor also has some great 100% tinned wire. West Marine sells up to 2/0 AWG (not punney SAE)
