HARD DRIVE plus LCD install??

so i've never seen this been done, but i've heard people have done this.

I plan on installing a hard drive and a screen in my maxima hopefully soon, but i'm a total electronic noob and i'm just getting my ideas together. i was hoping you guys could help me out.

The idea is to replace my stock headunit with any aftermarket headunit with an auxiliary input. Also install a screen hooked up to a external hard drive with a basic linux os to play basic media (music/movies). i can use a remote to control what it would be playing, etc.

If i actually get this setup up and running, that means no more cd's, etc. i can have my entire music library in the hard drive, entire divx collections, etc. i've been trying to figure out a way integrate my ipod into my car for months, but i like the idea of having a fully integrated system in my car. i've seen people install full pc's in their car, but i've heard too many bad things about that. too many parts that can fail. This setup is as simple as it gets, and since linux rules, i can pretty much do whatever i want.

but these are all just hopes and dreams. has anybody done this or something similar? does anybody know of any write ups? any help or input is welcome

thats advanced **** , but im sure it can be done , Dont know exatcly how , You could just get a windows mediacenter tower , One of the boxes , It has outputs for video and audio , Mount it some where where its hidden but can be accsessed and get a simple indash lcd and hook it up to the computer, And the windows media center edition computers come with remotes i think.

Well my suggestion would be this.

The pc some thing small like this , Mind you these are barebone kits , Only comes with the tower , All youll need is a mouse , Keybord , And monitor.

And heres a remote you could get it works with windows media center edition.

And youll need windows xp media center edition , You can get that at a store or get it for free from some one / where.
