Can I trust bestbuy to install new HU into my 02 max?

BestBuy offers free installation of any head unit over 100 bucks, seems like a hard deal to pass up. But iv been reading about the bose unit, and it looks like its a complicated process to install a new head unit into a bose system. Can I trust bestbuy to have all the right adapters, and to do it correctly?

It all depends if you're going to continue to use the Bose speakers with the new headunit or not. If you are, then they will have to install an adapter to compensate with the new headunit. Also, installing a new headunit isn't difficult at all...it's just the Bose unit is hard to remove from the factory mounting bracket. The bolts/screws are "lock-tite" in. Most people (like myself) had to drill these bolts out in order to remove the radio. That free installation that Best Buy offers is crap! At times, the price is somewhat "hidden" in the price of the radio. Also, they have people inexpereinced working on other's cars that don't really know what they are doing. They'll end up tearing up your car without even letting you know or for what your not aware of. Look in the 5th gener's stickies. There's plenty of writeups on DIY car installation how-to's. Save your money and do it yourself. That way you'll feel better about yourself in taking care of your car and knowing it will be done right. Good luck!

All depends on how the local Best Buy is. There are good and bad shops everywhere, doesnt matter whether theyre custom shops or big box stores, you never know what your gonna get. As far as the need for adapters...read the Car Audio FAQ sticky, on page 2 theres a post by myself about all your different options as far as that goes. Me?...I install for Circuit City, and yeah there are some people in the company who I would trust with my car, but there are also people who I wouldnt let touch it with a 10 foot pole. We run the free install promotion almost nonstop as well. Id say either find someone local from the org (like myself) to do it, or find a recommendation for a good local shop/installer. A few I recommend are AVE Audio in Clearwater (avecarstereo.com), T&J Elite Customs in Oldsmar (not the best product selection but extremely knowledgeable), and Sensuous Sounds on Busch Blvd in Tampa. Im not sure whether those are too far of a drive for you from Lutz, but I havent even heard of any shops in Lutz to recommend, so I figured Id throw those out there.

Good luck,

Thanks for the info kpr12is! Which circuit city do you work at? If I where to buy something from your store could I request you? Or does the store do it at random?

The store I work at now is a bit far of a drive, being that its in Gainesville. I used to work at the Clearwater one, and all their installers are pretty good. I hear bad things about the New Port Richey store though.
