Hey whats up, as the title indicates I keep blowing my fuse!
This is the situation:

My stereo equipment is listed below
so you can check that out. I have
4G wire run throughout for power and
ground. The fuse is a normal crappy
tire special gold fuse, I think they are
rated at 80A. I can't say if having
the music cranked is a cause because
my music is cranked like 90% of the time.
5% of that is after I blow the fuse lol.
I was pondering that it may be too much
resistance in the power wire, or the cap
is not fully charged, something to that effect.
I DID NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM BEFORE I GOT MY CAP
and during the install of the cap I did not have a
volt meter to monitor it, but am pretty sure
I held it on there long enough
(like 2mins off and on [got too hot!])
any help you can give would be greatly appreciated,
I dont really have the time to do a full
diagnostic so I need to know where to look first.

when you say fuse, do you mean your main fuse? or a fuse in your distribution block? if your cap is connected to a distribution block, it should be unfused. also, 2 mins sounds like a long time to charge. i think it's only supposed to take a few seconds.

 

I would go back & double check any of the wiring you had to play with when you installed the cap. More then likely something is grounding out. Just make sure you don't have any hot wires touching any bare metal. The only other thing I can think off is a bad power supply inside the amplifier can sometimes pop the fuse without damaging the fuses located on the amp. Go figure???

 

I think if I had a short the fuse would be blowing a heck of a lot quicker, it takes like 300km-500km before the fuse blows. yes it is the main fuse from the battery.

 

does it blow right away when you put it in?

if it only started happening since you put the cap in, it probably has something to do with the cap or cap install.

how many amps do you have? how many watts are they putting out?

a cap only needs to be charged for about a minute. personally, id just get rid of it. they're useless.

 

Do the "Big three" it will be time and money better spent.

 

I will be doin the big three soon, cause my altenator is on the way out, but I am pretty sure that is not going to help me with this situation,
also, a cap is FAR from useless I dont know where you got that idea from, but you are wrong. I will check the power to the cap and from the cap(reserve) this weekend, but I still need some help here, can anyone actually help me?

that cap is more of a strain on your stock electrical system more than anything.

but yeah, sounds like something is shorting itself out after your cap installation. just go back and recheck all the wires and connections.

 

upgrading your big 3 will help your electrical system a bit, but it will not solve your blown fuses issue.

A cap is useless in my opinion, and virtually all of the opinions of everyone on this forum with the best systems, and the most experience.

When your system hits a heavy note, theres a ridiculously SMALL split second delay to when its actually heard. A Capacitor is designed to store the power to anticipate that gap, and provide the power when its needed. Thus why your lights dim a little bit less with a cap. The delay however, is such a small amount, it cant be heard by human ears. Thus, a waste of money.

 

the delay for most music cant be heared, but I have very acute ears and I listen to a lot of fast metal and punk, so if there is any delay I can hear it, It fuaks up the quality of music imo. I will go back through everything and check it, thanks for the relpies and ideas,,, just wondring if a fault in the cap itself could cause this or if it is very likely a hard wire issue, and why does it take so long to blow???
