Finally got some gear in the 5th Gen!

My transferring over of my gear from my 4th gen to the 5th gen has gone pretty slowly. A few weeks ago I started putting Damplifier in the trunk and trunk lid. That took quite a few hours. Last Friday I did the front passenger door. The next day I did the driver's side door. That took me about 3 1/2 hours a door. I was able to cover most of the inside part of the outer skin, and almost all of the inner skin of the doors. I also used a bunch of rattle pad on the doors.

I finally got some gear in it yesterday. The Eclipse HU, 4 ch Arc amp, sub, and Germaniums are in. I put those things in the afternoon and it took me quite a while. I went with the metra kit, as you all know it's not as nice as the 2k GXE kit, but think I will be leaving it in. The CD7000 sticks out a little more than other HU's and with this unit it actually sits in there very nicely. Towards the end I was putting in my Germaniums and I was running out of steam. I had planned on doing the MDF rings a little later, but since the mids did not fit, I was forced to do them last night at 10PM. At this time the car was still all taken apart. I get up for work at 4AM. I put the amp on the back of the rear seat, and the crossovers for the components right next to it. I plan on getting some rear speakers and putting the 2ch amp in. I will use the rear channels of the 4150 for those and run the sub with the 2100 as before. I am thinking of putting the 2100 under one of the front seats. I may also try to relocate the 4150 up there as well. I think Manny had his 4150 up there, can't remember for sure though. I wills post some shots a little later. I thinkg I am getting old...... I may resort to paying someone to do this the next time .

Not only would I also like to know which car sounds better, but which one do you like more? I know that the turning radius of the 5th g sucks the big one, but the long wheelbase should be a smoother ride-especially on the freeway. The 4th gen is lighter, but the 5th gen only has more power over like 5k rpm when VIAS kicks in. I know this is the audio forum, but if you want to write a few sentences I'd appreciate it.

The turning radius is hard for me since my old bmw would turn full circles on almost any street. It seems like every U-turn in the 5th gen is a 3 point turn.

Well comparing 3.5 to 3.0, my 3.5 has so much more low end and high end power, the mid range just puts a smile on my face.

Juan... lets see some pics!!!! Did your girls help you? I hope that install chair was available!! lol

When did you get the 5th? Is it auto? Happy modding!!

oh sorry, I meant from 3.0 to 3.0. The slushbox is absolutely terrible on these cars (who the hell wants to always shift into o/d at 35 MPH?)

I picked it up a little over a month ago. Yeah, the chair was available . My son actually helped me with the Damplifier install. He was the one using the little roller. The car is an auto, the wife does not like manuals (she sometimes drives it), and this may become my daughter's car a little ways down. I will post some shots in a little bit.

I have been pretty busy lately and have not gone through all the threads I posted in. Kids are back in school, alot of afterschool activities, and alot of work as well . I actually got off work a little past 2pm today. I got there a little before 11pm last night. Audiowise I plan on adding some rear speakers, a couple of headrest monitors, and a dvd player for the kids. I also plan on some more sound deadening. I still need to do the rear doors, under the rear seat, the rear deck, and the area inside the cabin where the wheel wells are. I have eliminated the couple of little noises I had with the Damplifier and the Overkill. The car makes no more noise when going over those little bumps on the freeway. Sounds solid now. The video screens I am going to pay someone to do, as I do not want to chance messing up the leather headrests.

I plan on moving it over. If you keep on making them I may just buy another one .

I think the weight difference is not even over 80lbs, if I am not mistaken. I looked at the weight on the doors and was surprised to see that. I will check again later. I have been wondering about the turning radius, and thought it was just me misjudging the turn . Handling wise my 4th gen is on top, but this has alot to do with the suspension mods. The 5th gen feels alot better now thanks to the RSB though. I also put on a FSTB that I had laying around. I am thinking about putting in some 15mm H&R spacers in the rear. Not sure if I will be doing anything more than that to it as far as mods go.

Parag is right about the power difference, it is definately very noticeable .

Here are some shots. I will be moving the amplifier under the front seat (only one is installed right now). I ran 2 power wires because I first thought about only one amp going under one of the front seats. The crossovers for the Germaniums will be tucked under the dash. Car is a little dirty, wires are also a little messy, and you could see some drill bit dancing on the interior wire shots.

Thanks guys .

I will add some wire loom a little later, and silicone the area around the grommets.

The amp does barely fit on there. I had to actually unscrew one of the RCA sleeves so that it would not get bent. If I had used something like the Monster Micro-xln's it would not be an issue. I plan on moving it under one of the front seats to go with a more stealthy install.

The strut bar is a Courtesy Nissan bar. It actually has those letters etched on it. I've had it for a few years just laying around and finally got to use it. They had sent me the wrong bar and I ended up just keeping it.

Is that the Scosche HU kit? Or which kit is that? Does anyone know if you can sand the textrue off that kit and paint it to match the factory metallic gray?

Sorry, didn't mean to H/J your thread.

Your install looks clean to me. I like the HU kit except for the plastic not matching (which I know is why most people suggest the GXE vent kit).

You are 100% right Parag . I did not think about that till you mentioned it.

No problem about the H/J . This is not the Scosche kit, I think that one actually has a better color match than this one. I thought about doing what you said to see if it would match a little better. The reason I want to keep it is because the way the HU fits in there. If I went with the GXE kit or the Schosche, the HU would stick out alot more.

Thanks!

I just finished installing my amplifiers under the front seats. I installed the 4150 under the driver's seat and the 2100 under the passenger's seat. The crossovers are in the trunk behind the finishing material. The sub is bolted down right behind the rear seat area. The only thing that says I have a system is the sub in the trunk, nothing else is visible. Once I get an infinite baffle 8" sub in the stock location, it will be pretty stealthy . This will give me full use of the trunk area.

Looks good Juan

ever looked into those locking grommets? when you tighten the grommet, this central rubber piece hugs the wire...making an air and water tight connection.

Not yet... ... I went to the DLS site to look at the ones you have. I guess with a single eight I will run the Arc 2100 at 8 ohms bridged. This will give the sub around 200 watts RMS. That way I wont be giving it too much power. It does not sound like alot of power going to a subwoofer, but I am thinking/hoping that since it is firing directly into the passenger compartment it may be enough for it to sound decent. I am not looking for earth shattering bass, and I am not expecting that from a sinlge 8", just enough to get a little bit of bump to blend it well with the rest of the system .

I think the OA8 will definately do the job. I don't think it would be that much harder to fit an OA10 in there either though. As I've mentioned my 8's are getting MAYBE 130-150 watts peak right now (combined, and that's a stretch) and they round out my system perfectly at the moment. I don't see there being any issue with these subs keeping right up with my soundlines once I've got them powered up with the 4150 and the soundlines installed.

My goal with this sytem was sound quality, no over-emphasizing bass, mids or highs, just a great blend of all, and I have no doubt in my mind that I will accomplish this with the OA8's/Soundline/4150/IDX combo.

No... I was actually going to watch a movie with my wife, one we rented. I came in to see if she was ready to watch it, and she was already asleep. Then before I knew it I was in the middle of the install. I was happy that the 4150 fit under there. I will take shome shots a little later.
