Question about airspace

My subwoofers require 2.25 ft^3 of airspace per subwoofer. I need to do a inverse setup in my next car but was wondering if you still need the same amount of airspace. The box i'll be making will be ported also

that will be fine. just make the enclosure that will give the sub that airspace. when you mount the sub "normally" with the basket inside the box, you make the box a tiny bit bigger to account for the basket/magnet displacement.

just remember the airspace taken up by the port isn't calculated in with the required airspace for the sub.

oh i see, then i guess i can make the box a lot smaller this time, jbl w12's have a gigantic basket. mounting depth is something like 10.75inches. Also my next car will be a g35, can you run two amps using the factory headunit? or am i stuck with factory speakers on the inside.

Also I thought they made a unit that improves the performance of a factory unit no?

okay i decided to go with a sealed box this time instead of ported. One question I do have is does it matter the depth of the box when it comes to doing an inverse setup? I was thinking making the box about 6 inches deep while being about 30 inches wide and 14-16 inches in length.

nope...as long as the final dimensions will give the proper airspace for the sub.

okay i just realized with the dimensions 30*16*6 I only get 1.3 cubic feet of airspace...i dont think my JBL W12 GTi's will perform very well with only .65 cubic feet each...any suggestions?

How big is the space you are trying to put it in? Also making it, say 8" deep will give you much more space. It would bring it to around 2ft^3. I know that is still under what you want, but it is closer.

I would try to do 8 inches deep but Im afraid the sub/box wont have clearance in the trunk. I haven't seen too many people with big systems in the Infiniti G35 coupe Also do you guys know if I can use two hi-lo converters so that I can use after market speakers and another amp to power them using the stock headunit?
