Some questions regarding... most things audio

I just had a couple questions I'm sure you Audio savvy guru's can help me out with:
  • Has anybody mounted a capacitor in their cabin as opposed to the trunk for display purposes?
  • If I go with a single din HU that supplies everything I want in a stereo, but still want to add video capability later do they sell single din fold out monitors alone?
  • I'm running the speakers that are in my sig, would an amp be helpful or even worth it? (I currently only have an amp for my subs)
  • I need to revamp my audio, I need deadening, a capacitor, new HU (current ones CD player is broken), and possibly an amp for my speakers. Which order would you suggest doing this? I'm thinking Capacitor->HU->Deadening->Amp

Thank you all for your input

Ok let's start off lol

1. You don't need a capacitor
2. Your 2 - 10" subs are not even close to 1050w
3. for deadening.. a lot of people recommend edead from elemental designs --> http://www.edesignaudio.com
4.I'm pretty sure 1 din video monitors are easy to find.. heck you can find a 1/2 din video monitor.

  • The bullets are very neat and make it easy to read.
  • I wouldn't recomend edead unless you stay away from hot weather. Try secondskin. They did a comparison on a website somewhere and they were rated the worst. Unfortunately, I ended up finding this out the hard way.

1. I want to get a capacitor because I turn my music up too loud, and my headlights dim, as well as cabin lights if they're on. Kind of annoying.
2. 1050w is a model number, not a wattage.
3. Thanks I'll go check em' out.
4. 1/2 din o.O so they make just stand alone monitors that fold out of 1 din huh, goodie because I really want video just...kinda poor right now, gonna wait till I get into college and settle before dumping money into such an expensive hobby.

Thanks godlyone

Why not? makes things easy to read, people will be more likely to give me advice as opposed to complaining about how disorganized my post was.

So the edead stuff is the bad stuff or the secondskin? I heard good things about secondskin

Second skin is the good stuff.

Do the big three upgrade instead of the capacitor.

You're lights dim because of a poor electrical system efficency. If you use a cap to bandage this, it will only make the problem worse.

You need to do the big 3. Basically improve the grounding under the hood...

It should be easy to find in this section. Metal Maxima has a very informative thread on this.

Big 3? You mean the 3 stage step thing the company that sells second skin does?

hey im new on this forum and new to maximas but ive been installing car stereos for years now so im not some noob in this

1. capacitors are a waste of money if u dont want your lights to dim get a bigger alternator and run 2 batteries..... but thats overkill doesnt sound like your system needs it, i say just get a high output alternator

2. yes they do sell single din monitors alone, but why would you want a flip out when our gorgeous dashboards have space for 3 din? u should consider just a regular high quality screen and mount it in 2dins.

3. if you get an amp your speakers will be louder and clearer. .... bottom line

4. as for deadening i agree with godlyone go with some edesign audio products they work well, also consider their 4 channel amp for your speakers you will not be disapointed.

hope this helps

For sound deadening, I'd avoid anything made with asphalt, since it has a tendency to smell bad and lose adhesion at higher temperatures. Here is an excellent comparison of some popular sound deadeners:

Thank you very much, very informative post.

1) How much do high out-put Alternator's run? / What type would I need?

2) We can fit 3 dins?! ... I didn't even know it existed XD I suck lol, but really how? the only space I can imagine is the bottom most panel I have for storage but there's a gap between that and the 2 din above it, how can all 3 be utilized? or are you saying like, but the 1 din in bottom and use the 2 din up top for a stand alone screen?

3/4) I'll check out that amp, since my speakers are aftermarket Infinity's I'm seriously considering an amp for them.
