Running wires to the doors.

How did you guys run speaker wires to your doors? It looks almost impossible.

it's definately possible. i ran mine down the door sills (on both sides), under the carpet, up through the kick panel area, and fed through the stock door grommet. it was a royal pain in the *** snaking four 14 gauge wire through the already cramped stock grommet...but it's doable.

in my 3rd gen i simply drilled a hole high in the kick panel area, and another hole in the door jam area. rubber grommets are used on both holes. then the wire was taped up and she was ready to go.

its simple pop out both sides of the grommets and get a coat hanger(not what i used) i used a hugeeee industrial size zip tie for fishing wires. Tape the wires to the object and stuff it through its quite simple actually.

I was thinking about getting out the trusty drill..I had my last install "Professionally" done, and they spliced the bose wires instead of running new ones. Thats why im just doing it myself this time.

Name any shop you consider "professional" and Ill bet they use stock wire unless you specifically ask, and if you do indeed have them run new wire, its gonna cost you a pretty penny.

Not trying to be a argumentative, more power to ya if you DIY and do a good job, but just letting you know that the fact that they didnt run new wire doesnt at all mean it was an unprofessional install.

I understand your point...but let me tell you that this install was FAR from "professional." They destroyed my a pillars while installing my tweets shortly after i walked into the install bay to stop the installer from cutting holes in my doors to mount the tweets without asking me. I said whats wrong with the stock locations then he says no you dont understand you never had tweeter. So i get in the car remove the a pillar and say then what the hell is that thing. Then they tried to super glue my a pillars back together and it took the dye out of the carpet.

. 9 wire cord for running 4 channels... thats what we use for our customers, always. Its sooo much easier/faster. I just wish they made some that came in thicker wire than 18 awg, so i could use it for my car.

It is not that hard to to I had 10 ga and 12ga running through mine. Al you need is some dishsoap!!! works every time Oh i would suggest you go from the door to the car since the gromet curves up towards the down much easier to feed wires down versus up.

Dont mean to threadjack but i see different ppl running 10, 12, 14 gauge to their speakers. What would be recommended and what would be considered overkill?? I believe i have 20 gauge to tweeters and 16 gauge to speakers. Worth to run new wire?

I think it depends what kind of power you are running what kinda speakers you have. I am running pretty high end stuff plus I have about 350watts going to my midbass in my doors hence the 10ga wire. for most people 10ga is over kill I would say 16ga to 14ga would be good for any normal set up. 20ga is not gonna get it done.

i personally wouldn't go any smaller than 16 gauge. i don't have as much power going to my fronts as KUBLKMAX but since i had 14 gauge laying around...i figured why not?

Out of curiousity why not give yourself some slack from the bose amp, if its in the trunk, and connect your wires form there instead of running excess wires all through the car. In my 2000 thats the way we did it and it was alot easier than trying to make love to the grommet int the door!
