12V power and RCA switch questions

Problem #1...I have a tough question as usual. I have a Power Acoustik DVD player in my glovebox. When I bought it I was under the assumption that when I turn my key, the dvd player would come on.......WRONG!!! I goes straight to standby. Then I have to turn it on with the remote. Is there a way around this? I'm not afraid to take it apart but I just don't know what to do when I do dismantle it.

Problem #2...I have a Sirius Plug N Play radio that is connected to my Sony HU using RCA cables. However, my dvd player also needs a place for RCAs but I only have 1 audio input on my deck. I bought a switch from radioshack but it's huge and ugly. Is there an easy and "better looking" way to install a switch for this?

Simple y adapters will allow you to connect both inputs.

I don't know if there's a way around the power on of the dvd player.

Right....Im aware of how Y adapters work and that's been handled. But is there a way to create a switch for it that I can place somehere for ease.

I understand that.....Sometimes I like to drive with the dvd player on and have the Sirius on also. That definatley would be a problem. Plus it would be cool to just have a simple switch for that.

Hmm but you would only be able to listen to once source... so I'm not sure what the best way would be.... good luck hope you figure it out.

I guess I'll just have to leave that the way it is. I just got a cheap switch from radioshack. Does anyone have a solution for problem #1?

For problem number one... what kind of switch is it on the unit itself? I'm sure there is a way to swap out that switch or use a relay in place of it to power up the unit when the vehicle is on.

Haha I have no clue. All I know is that it fooled me because the wiring harness has "Constant 12V", "Switched 12V", and "Ground" which would lead me to believe that it's wired correctly. However, when I turn the car off there are no lights(obviously. When I turn the car on only the power light comes on but I have to use the remote to turn it all the way on. It sucks.

I don't think there's a workaround for that, it's built into the power features of the dvd player. Think about it...if you buy a TV and plug it in, do you want it to go automatically on? No, you only turn it on when you use it, because otherwise it's wasteful.

How can you compare a home component to a car component. Is your car radio off everytime you turn your car on? Of course not. It's not a common car audio characteristic. I guess I will have to buy a different one.

I'm comparing it because they work the same way. My home DVD player doesn't turn on when I plug it in either.
