Difficulty of Replacing Current Remote Start System?

have a 2k GLE with a two-way pager, alarm, remote start sytem..the Hornet 554T. I have had issues with this unit off and on for the past 2 years. I'm sure most of it comes down to wiring since the A-holes that installed it did a half-a*s job.

A couple months ago I dropped the key fob and cracked the LCD screen. Now a new one is about $100 plus.

Question is...what would be the difficulty for a "good" electronics shop to pull out my current Hornet unit and replace it with a new unit? They would probably need to clean up the wiring somewhat too.

Would this be worth it? Or should I just have a shop fix my wiring issues and get a new key fob?

Thanks.
Ryan

It won't lock my doors when arming the unit from the key fob. The unit still arms, but the doors remain unlocked. I can lock my doors from the switch inside the car so there are not immenent security threats, its just a pain. Weird thing is my key fob will unlock the doors when disarming the unit.

The other issue I noticed today was with the dome light. It doesn't come on now when I disarm the unit, or when I shut off the car. Before it would. I haven't changed any settings on it so I don't know why that would be happening.

Ugh...I just don't have time to look at this cr*p and I'm weighing my options.

Take a couple minutes and pull off the trim under the steering wheel. Not the clamshell part. Trace the door lock wire and the dome light wire. If the installer used t-taps, do a hard solder on those wires, or just splice them in better. It's not that hard to replace, but it may save you some cash if you removed the unit yourself. Make sure the unit doesn't have starter kill, if it does, you'll have to reconnect the cut ign wires.
