Need Help Choosing Between Pioneer DEH-P9800BT and Apline CDA-9857

If you have any experience on either of these models, please chime in.

I recently bought another vehicle and I have narrowed my choices to these two options. I have always been happy with Alpine products, but the one Pioneer deck I had a few years ago really impressed me.

The Pioneer model has built in bluetooth, but that isn't really an issue, because if I buy the Alpine, I will be purchasing the Bluetooth module for it. I will also be purchasing the iPod interfaces for either unit.

I am not interested in any other units, video or nav units, etc.

I guess right now, I just want to pick the best unit for the money.

Any thoughts?

Please respond soon, because I plan on making my purchase before I leave to go home on Wednesday.

The Pioneer hands down. 16 band graphic EQ, 3 way crossover, 5V 100 ohm preouts...versus hardly any EQ, no crossover, and 2V preouts. Plus iirc the Pioneer's ipod adapter is a bit quicker. Alpine isnt what they were a few years ago.

Could be true. Its tough to say since we dont carry Alpine anymore. My statement was coming from this exact same convo I had with my asst mgr at work, who happened to have done a 9857 with ipod adapter recently and he said he liked the Pioneer better, but either way, both Pioneer and Alpine are on their 2nd generation of ipod adapters, so theyll both work great as far as that goes.

That aside, Pioneer still FTW...and Alpine still FTL.

Are there any issues with the Pioneer that I should know about? I know that the original run of that model had problems with autodetection of the phone when using bluetooth. You basically had to make the deck search for the phone every single time you got in the car. It seemed to only be a problem with Motorola Phones and a few Nokias. I have the Motorola Q, so I would prefer to be able to remedy this problem before it becomes one.

A local shop here has the Pioneer for $360 as a holiday promotion. I am assuming that is a can't miss price for this unit. I am not trying to skimp on the head unit, it's just that I dropped almost $3000 for the ARC system (outside of the head unit) in my 650CI and I want to limit what I am going to have to pay for.

I mean, I may be an attorney, but I'm damn sure not debt free.

What? How about all those notorious motor failures on the alpines? Maybe they fixed that but I don't know if either is anymore reliable than the other.

I've always been a fan of pioneer head units. I've had 2 pioneer decks and I love both of them. I sold my first to upgrade to a newer one. I can't speak for the alpine though. I heard they have great head units and my friends that have had them have never complained about them. Speakers on the other hand I would go alpine hands down.

Yea, your right. Im sorry 18+ years of doing this, owning my own business as well as being a rep for high end gear means so little in comparison to your "few installs".

Sorry, your ears are quite tainted by mass marketing.

Oh, further more...

Not ban yet, this guy is too funny.

He acts like he knows all, but yet still follows the Alpine bandwagon.

Has yet to provide anything factual to back up his claims.

Did Not call as he said he did in another thread.

Calls me a puppy, when its obviously him thats still wet behind the ears.

Perhaps I can spare one of my kids diapers for the baby?

No abuse here, you got called for facts and couldnt provide. If thats abuse then I got a whole lot more for you. In simple terms for you...you dont have to "put up with it" you can leave, or I can show the way out.

Ill take that bet.

Believe what you want, I could give a rats ass

Damn, I was gone for a couple weeks and when I log back on, I see someone trying to go toe-to-toe with a verifiable institution of knowledge and experience such as Don. It's a shame. What's this world coming to?

On a side note, I decided to skip out on both of those choices. I want something a bit more high end. So, I decided to wait until I can figure out exactly what I want. I am also trying to save money for an ARC DXE, but I have put so much money into these two cars that it is real hard to have spare money to play with.
