Complete noob in car electronics has questions.

So I just installed my new headunit in place of non-Bose audio

I got lucky and didn't screw anything up, being the first time I've touched the inside of my dash. I just twisted wires together + electrical taped all connections to make sure everything works, and it sounded excellent. Should I leave it like that, or will I notice a difference if I solder connections?

It sounds perfect, no static or anything, but I figured I'd ask the pros.

Solder and shrik wrap it. As hot as it gets out here in AZ, the electrical tape doesn't work too well and solder is a more solid connection anyway. Also keep the copper from corroding.

If you don't solder it, at least use crimp caps or butt connectors.

i just installed a new unit as well. a double din. it was some hassle but soldering is highly recommended. crimping is the easy way out..

are you saying you dont have a permanent connection set? get some heat shrink wrap and a basic solder set. very easy

I would follow the advice of the above posters. I actually did the same thing when I installed my first deck about 7 years ago. After about 3 months the adhesive on the tape started to loosen and next thing you know, there is smoke coming from the deck. From that point on, I crimp all connections with butt connectors.

i would have to say that it depends on the quality of the electrical tape, and how you use it; also butt connectors in my opinion suck, if you dont crimp them just right they WILL come loose, so my choise is solder and shrink wrap, cant go wrong with that.

Even with the best electrical tape (3M Super 77+, like $3/freakin roll), I've still found that over a few months of heat in the summer, it becomes undone.
