sub in the rear deck setup?

i see all these people putting subs in the rear deck etc and was wondering how the sound quality and sound capacity is compared to with a box.. right now i have a JL10W7 with the JL H.O. box.. and i was wondering if it would sound just as good if i put it in my rear deck... that would save a LOT of space.. so just wondering.. thx

Im pretty certain a W7 is NOT meant to be mounted IB.. dont do it, you'll end up ruining the sub.

as far as better sounding, its all in the installation. the door swings both ways..

IMHO, of all the setups ive heard IB, they can sound great, but they never sound as good as a really nice sub-in-box-in-trunk setup.. and its much more difficult to get an IB setup as loud as a box setup.

your W7 is not for IB, im 100% sure. I dont use my trunk very much but i hate the extra weight.....that's why recently changed to an IB setup. Nismo14 will chime in soon...he has done this many times with different setups so he could tell you from experience, from what i've heard so far with my 1 8" it sounds great and you cant beat being able to use the trunk and less sag in the rear wheels..its low enough back there...

With the right sub, the right power, and the right setup you will be more than happy with an IB setup done right. If you wanna go ***** out you can go with a 15 IB too. There is one in particular that I'm a pretty big fan of... http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=295-455

It all depends on what you do.

Sound quality is better because there is no box "coloring" the output of the sub. Output is usually lower because your Qtc of the system starts to approach the Qts of the sub. An IB install is just like installing the sub in a large box.

ALL subs can be mounted as an IB. How they perform depends on their Theile/Small parameters. Destroying a sub while in an IB is nothing but user error. Since there is no air spring from a box, the sub must rely on its mechanical and electrical properties to keep the sub from over-excursion. Just limit the amount of power and everything will be fine.

To compare output between an IB and a box, model both in WinISD or Unibox. You will also find out how much power you can feed the sub without it detroying itself.
