Sub: 10 or 12 sealed or vented for a Subaru

So my cousin has finally realized he wants more sq from his sub. He currently has an L5 15" in a sealed box, but wants something more accurate. He drives a Subaru wagon, but needs a small box (isn't sealed usually smaller?) since he has to tote tons work equipment around with him.

His amp is a Hifonix Brutus, so power isn't really an issue. I know he still wants it to thump, but he wants it tighter/cleaner.

I'm not sure what the current offerings are, but a shop local to him had some Diamonds on sale so he started asking me about them (I used to have a 10" D3). I think his price range is $100-$250. Is there anything from DLS, Ascendent, Alumapro or from the other higher end stuff that would be better than the Diamond?

What do you suggest?

get a 12" sub and seal it. If you can find an avalanche 12 that would fit the budget and sound real good.

wagon eh? i think a 10 would be ideal if he's not looking for SPL. plus it should still get fairly loud considering there's no trunk to enclose the bass.

i say get a 10 and seal it. give the SS RL-i a try.

check out elemental designs. They have a new slim subwoofer which can fit nicely in a subaru.. maybe even two of them.

While I appreciate your input, "friends don't let friends buy ED".

I'll check out the soundsplinter subs. I guess I'm just not sure whether a vented or sealed box would be best (or 10 or 12 for that matter).

i would go sealed if he wants to save space. or he can get a single 10, and have it ported with a low tuning to get a little more SPL out of it. the response should still remain pretty flat with the low tune.

Sealed is the way to go if the aim is SQ, a small sized box with a low tune may be hard to fabricate.

IMO a sealed 12 would be best.

Why is that? They have absolutely amazing customer service, excellent quality products and all for a great price.

Please show me otherwise.

Some of their business practices are more than suspect, previous things they've done are still haunting them.

Does this look familiar? Which came first? The chicken or the egg?

Ed is only alive because. they have fools for. customers. However. with that being said all they offer are products. that OTHER companies have ALREADY produced, for slightly less $ than the OEM. Their CS is only decent because. it was so suspect in the past. they have to make up for it. The amps Boards used in the. nine series are. old boards NOT used b.y other companies.

edited to show proper grammar by Ben Milne.

Ed says that their sq line came out before the above pic offered on partsexpress.

They develop all of their drivers and amps from scratch, so I don't think they use old boards from other companies.
Do you have any examples?

I have nothing to do (on break from school), but I'd rather **** a fat chick than discuss why Ed sucks at life. Other can chime in, or just search ca.com. SI.net has a huge thread on why Ben Milne Sucks.
