JUST for clarification sake...re: factory nav

Been emailing with an orger who has a 5th gen with factory nav. He would like to change out his radio. Informed him that he will be losing his factory nav if he does so however he seems to think that the stock radio is "detached" from the nav. I already told him the answer and I'm 100% sure he's going to lose his nav if he does anything to his front end, so this thread is to appease him.

Confirmation, please...

u da man...It would really suck ***** if this is true...I think I might have to go old school and run new wires for everything including the headunit...and if the nav doesnt turn on with the radio unplugged ill have to leave it plugged in and stash the radio somewhere....the stock nav is the main reason I bought the car...I did the free search and came up with nothing...just comparisons on the stock nav compared to aftermarket....Thanks..

you know what nilesh...He might be ok. The radio functions look like they're all detached. Problem would be finding a trim kit for it... =/

crappy pic but this woudl give you an idea.

Radio is below the nav screen...

when i did my cousin's max with navi all the radio wires were just like the bose non navi headunit and of course all connected to the bottom unit. I think it can be done...

those speaker wires are pre outs from the bose headunit...I used those to send the signal to the amp for my cousins subwoofers...the signal is STRONG... Maybe it's easier if you get a 4channel amp and splice some rcas?

as u can see from someones auction on ebay the navigation unit is separate from the radio...then when I popped mine out there was a inch gap between the two...Might be enough space for a hidden kenwood eq but that might come in the summer...

What did u do to ur cousins max?are u saying the clips in back of the stock headunit were the same as a non navi?Cuz I know I need the antena adapter for my pioneer and id rather not splice for power if I dont have to...also that would make things alot easier when it comes to getting my guidance chick back...louder...louder...louder...haha...she gets annoying I just turn her off on all my cars...

I unplugged a total of 4 clips behind the headunit and 2 black plugs...1 was the antenna and the other has to be for the cd changer...sucks that I lose it now...

i don't know if it's the same wiring harness PLUG (it may be).
i added an amp to power his subwoofer. he's still using the stock radio. I tapped the wires from the wiring harness from the radio wires...all the colors are the same. to get the signal to the amp I tapped the rear speaker wires and spliced the end of an rca wire to it so I had "rca pre-outs" like on an aftermarket radio. Go to walmart and buy the nissan wiring harness...see if it fits on the radio harness....
Only part that will suck is finding a dash kit that will make the install look nice.
Good luck!

My fault fellas. I thought the single DIN underneath was the climate control. Since the cc is integrated into the nav, then I suppose it should work. There's still some doubt but we won't know till it's opened up.

ok so I had to drill to get the stock headunit off the frame.I pulled off the radio part that is just clipped on to the rest of the trim. Here are some pics.

from what I can see the pioneer radio trim fits perfectly.Ill ruin the stock bose radio but Ill have one clean set up....whats a good tool to cut this type of plastic accurately?dremel?
