Component System Install

I'm going to be installing an infinity reference 6.5cs component system in my 1999 Bose-less max this weekend. Already have the wiring done and am just waiting to do the door/tweet install. I have a few questions please. Any info is greatly appreciated!

1. Wouldn't it be a good idea to install the tweets in the door at the same location as stock bose right in front of the handle? I'm going with this for simplicity's sake and hoping not to screw up cutting into the door panel.

2. I'm going to be running 70 watts per channel via AlpineV450. To get the best sound possible, I'm sure I'll need to do some sort of deadening or noisekill in my stock door panels, correct?. I haven't ever done this, or know what would be the best and cheapest solution that I can do myself. Some experienced info would be appreciated.

3. I have two ideas as far as mounting the passive crossovers. The first would be somewhere inside the door, held in place with either a bracket or 3-M job. The second would be under the driver and front passenger seats. Anyone have any better ideas?

1) My components are in the stock locations. Worked out very nicely, although I had a shop do the install about 4 years ago. No complaints though.

2) For sound deadening / noise kill, there are really 2 separate processes. One is adding weight to panels that have a tendency to harmonically vibrate. This involves using something like Dynamat, Raam Mat, etc. The other process is adding closed cell foam to block outside noise. For more info, check out this thread - http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=414337

3) For the passive crossovers, you may want to consider some very strong 2 sided tape (make sure it is resistant to heat) and put it on the inside of the door panel, AFTER you take care of sound deadening, etc. A bracket can also be a good idea, but is more work.

I'm sure other folks here can offer even better advice. I'm certainly no expert.

Stock locations are definately fine for installing.

Deadening is a must if you want to know what your speakers really sound like and how much you can expect of them.

The kickpanels tend to work well for the xover install as well.

i have my crossovers under each front seat for simplicity's sake. as for the tweet, use some tape and temp 'mount' them in various parts of the door to see which location will give you the best imaging. but like nismo said stock location is fine.

Ok, thanks guys. I'll have to do some homework on sound deadening. I'll have to judge whether or not to put the crossovers under the seat or in panels according to their size.

Try the triangular panels just to the inside of the sideview mirrors (they are called sail panels). I used them with an angled surface mount, and they were pretty easy to do.

I'm thinking about that, it would almost seem (from outside speculation) that this would be a better location for proper imaging.

One other question......I feel stupid asking, but my HU only has 1 set of preamp outputs, so I could only run one set. Shouldn't I be able to buy 2 "Y" type connectors to use at the 4 channel amp input? I have been out of the loop for a few years, but would figure by now, there might be a technology that allows a single set of rca's to run a 4 channel (even though a 4 channel is really two - 2 channel amps in the same housing)? Thanks for your help guys.

Usually 4 channel amps can accept 1 set of RCA inputs and split them internally into both "sets" of outputs. This will save you a run of RCAs. If you DO end up "Y"ing them, do it at the amp end, not at the receiver end. You will need a 1F to 2M "Y" if you do this, but I don't think that this will be needed.

+1 on that^^ pretty much every amp will allow that and if not splitting at the amp will save you in the sq department as well as cost less for less wires going form hu to amp, and easier to fit on the way back too.

Parts Express has sound deadening material on the cheap; similar to Dynamat.
