New Prob. Lights dim when base hits

Well now that I fixed my loose wire problem, my new issue is that when my volume is turned up loud my headlights and dome light slightly flicker when the base hits. I've never had this problem before, or at least not noticed it. I'm running a stock atl. and probably the stock battery. Should I just replace the battery with a yellow top or should I get a new alty. I don't want to spend much money, but I would like not to get pulled over by the cops for my lights flickering. Thanks.

Umn do the big 3 and put in a new battery. My yellow top is nice...but for alot cheaper you can get similar results.

Big three upgrade check out
http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/...TID=73496&PN=1

your best bet is an ho alt. the lights dim because your stock one can't keep up to what your amp wants, a cap will just mask this and can disguise problems, a yellow top or similar batt will help to a certain degree too. Battery upgrades are more for running the stereo with the car turned off, but will help some.

Your best deal on an ho alt is probably Nathan at www.excessiveamperage.com he does a 180 amp alt that uses all stock harnesses and brackets for about $360 shipped

My stock alty might be under recall. I don't remember which alternators the recall affected though. Does anyone know where to check this out at?

if you're running BIG power, you should def. consider the HO alternator. My lights dimmed and stuff and after i got a bigger batter and the big 3, it doesn't dim any more. my system isn't that loud, so i got away with the battery and big 3.

From what I've read, the big 3 on the maximas fix most dimming problems. Start with that, and you can get a newer, better battery if you still have voltage dipping problems. Big 3 is also the cheapest to do.

okay, I guess I'll have to try it then. Should I buy a kit or make one myself?

I wouldn't buy one, it's not hard to assemble the materials. I've read that some people have had good luck with welding cable from home depot. It's cheap (that's why they used it) but one drawback is that it's stiffer than 0 gauge speaker cable.

Maybe someone else with more knowledge will pipe up.

I would not recommend 0 gauge from HD. If you use 2 or 4 gauge it should be fine.

That's good to know.

I haven't done this yet, but I read up on it and think about doing it, but then I remember that my motorcycle needs love more than my car does.

BTW, it's way too cold here to be working on anything.

I will never live in Minnesota. But, on a positive note, you guys have great hockey up there.

I'm moving to AZ (or maybe southern Cali) once I graduate from college. Then I can ride my motorcycle year round.

In east Tennesee it was 70 degrees last week. Now its in the thirties, and we might actually get snow.
