Good iPod Mount/Setup (Show and tell)
Good iPod Mount/Setup (Show and tell)
I recently picket up a windshield-mount iPod holder from a local company called Gomadic. A few notes about this product:
The Good
1. The suction cup for the windshield has a turn-bolt to tighten it. It's been on the car for 3 weeks now, with every kind of weather from 20 degrees to 70 degrees. It has not fallen off or come loose.
2. The flexible arm is great. It's very stiff, so once you flex it to how you want it, it will stay there until you physically re-bend it again.
3. The holder is nice. It holds the iPod securely, and when you want to remove it, hit a button on the bottom left and it clicks open to release.
4. It's also available with an integrated charger, which I did not get for some stupid reason.
5. Price is great (about $25, IIRC)
6. Emailed them with questions, got a response a few hours later.
7. Shipped the next day, on my door in 2.
8. Also available in stick-on mount or mount to the car's vents.
The Bad
1. some vibration, but for a free-hanging device, that's to be expected. Only over big bumps, which helps insulate the iPod from the shock. Vibration is not too bad.
2. wish it came in black
3. Wish the arm was about 3" longer. I still have to lean forward just a bit to reach it. Stupid Maxima huge dashboard!
Here's a link to their site for anyone interested. They make similar holders for things like cellphones, PDAs, etc.

I ran the headphone plug-in wire down behind the top vents so it would be out of the way. Also attached the wire to the back of the holder using velcro, so it would be in place to be plugged in when I put the iPod up there..
some pics, of course:

I like the screen up there because I have so many songs (3000+) on there I like to browse around alot when I'm stuck in rush hour traffic every day....
My deck has capability to download MP3 tracks as well, but teh iPod is much easier to use.

Looks like you HU is about as scratched up as mine. Too much throwing it into the center console or glove box or jeans pockets
