There should be a plastic clip holding these two rods apart. Mine is a dark purple color. My bars don't vibrate w/ bass. If you're asking if there is a way to dynamat them - I doubt it, but, Rockford Fosgate and a few others make a spray on dampner that may work.

Ya, I was going to recommend spraying them, but you really need to locate where they are rattling and seeing if you can slip foam in the area.

That little plastic, is it suppose to be up against the the top of the trunk? Mines isn't. Does that mean that piece is broke?

NO the peice isn't broke. It simply keeps the two different rods from rattling against one another and doesn't connect ot the rear shelf. I was looking at mine again and was wrong the color is red. Your rods don't really connect to the car. They ride in pivot points. The only way to stop that from making noise would be lots of grease. Are you sure the rods are making noise? If that plastic piece is in place it should be in the middle of the span. Mine seem pretty rigid and I don't think could vibrate. Maybe yours are loose or sloppy at pivot points? If that's the case I don't know what else to recommend other than lots of heavy grease or maybe you could find a vinyl or plastic collar at Home Depot or the like. If you're not certain that the rods are the cause, check third brake light rattling against spoiler, all loose stuff (ie:spare, jack etc.) also, I just recently found the problem w/ my trunk noise. I just re-adjusted the catch to hold the trunk tighter to the car. If I hit a bump the trunk would rise up just enough to make a noise when it settled back down. Sorry this is so long. I am new to this site and hope to get the most out of it. Good Luck.

I'm going to make sure that the bar is the rattling one. I'm not 100% sure, but I'm about 90%. Thanks for the advice I'm going to work something out. I was thinking about locking myself in my trunk, take a flash light, and look & listen.

Where's your website? I'm getting ready to do this in a couple of minutes. My boy works at Circuit City, and the Dynamat he got had 3 different types of Dynamat in it. One roll for hood of the trunk, two sheets for each fender and three sheets for the floor and wherever. I'll let you know.

But let me know about your website addy.

Hey Anton. Have you concidered writing up a How2 article to go with some of the pictures? I think alot of people would benifit from something like that. What prolems you came across, what prep work you had to do, little tricks you learned along the way. That would be a great contribution to the .Org.

Nice website. Even nicer system. I really didn't see how you minimized the vibration in those blasted rear bars. I just finished doing the wheel well and the top of the trunk. Sounds good so far. I do want to deaden the whole car but I just don't have the time right now, so I'll start with the trunk. Thanks for the webpage info.
