New TV dilemma....

Cannot decide between the two now. Both Samsung DLPs, one 71" the other 61" Difference in price..about $850.

http://www.samsung.com/Products/TV/D...S7178WXXAA.asp

http://www.samsung.com/Products/TV/D...S6188WXXAA.asp

Living room is approx 18 X 22 TV is on far wall, I dont see either being a problem for the room size, but could be wrong.

Discuss..

The TVs (both) look great, just wondering any drawbacks of getting either aside from possible regrets later down the road.

I say get the big one and be done with it...otherwise you will end up wanting the bigger one in a year and then have to upgrade.

Be careful Don, depending on how close you sit to the TV's, it seriously can be painful to watch with sizes that big.

i agree with MrGone, i prefer non DLPs.. i like the way straight plasma's look better. but to each his own.

and one thing on the Samsungs, they're great looking tv's but ive been told thats because samsung bumps up the vivid-ness (lack of a better word) to make them look more clear, fooling people into thinking that they are...

so basically the only difference is the size? Go check out some reviews on each.. cnet or whatever..

http://reviews.cnet.com/Samsung_HL_S...1.html?tag=txt

http://reviews.cnet.com/Samsung_HL_S...2828.html#more

both got good ratings, so i guess it really is just the size

71" is going to be tooooo big. My sister just bought a 60" Sony that fits just right in a 19'X19' room. Anything bigger would look abnoxiously HUGE! As someone else had mentioned, you might be better off with an LCD. I've read that DLPs are prone to rainbowing.

The rainbowing is the least of my concerns, the price point is more of a consideration factor.

Besides...LCDs dont go big enough.

Sony has the 60" rear projection. It's about 18" deep.

Nope none.

Just what I was told and a bit of reading when I bought the Mitsu I currently have. Whether times have changed for em or not is irrelevant, its still a Sony.

The Sony RP tv's are excellent. My bro has a HD ready RP flat screen (about 4 years old now). The software or processors on it made regular/analog cable TV look better than Digital cable/sat on some newer sets that I've seen. Of course now it's getting to be old technology, but I still love the way the Sony's look.

Can't go wrong with the Samsung either. Other bro has the 1080p 56" DLP. Excellent picture, no problems at 14 months (yeah, he got it right when the new 1080p chip came out. He had had his for like 2 months before any local stores got them).

I love the picture on my current RP (2 yrs old 1080i) 55" Mitsu, but this for me is all about conserving some play area for the kids. With the DLP Ill make up for depth and width after transeferring all the components from the side cabinets to under the TV. Figured while Im at it....I can go bigger !

I sat about 5 feet from a 61" tv for 3 years in college and never had a problem...Kevin can verify this too. Get the 71"...especially since you already have a 55".

And it was way too close. I sit probably 8-10 feet from my 57" and its still barely too big.

Heck no. go to a BB or CC (your favorite stores for car audio) and check out a 71" tv and stand 16 feet away to see how it looks.

I'd go for the 61", but you may be going for that engulfing effect of IMAX with the 71". Hope you have help bringing either of them into your house. Those things must weigh!

It actually weighs 8xLbs. Besides they bring it in an open it up for me when delivered.
