Heard a sub and some speakahz today...

Heard Jeff's 12in" Nobelium today... Very nice sounding sub. Some tuning and fixing of the box... how the ef did it break mang? and it will be even better.

The 12 was accurate, shook the hell out of everything as you'd expect. Not boomy at all (afterall it is sealed) and great overall sq.

Now the highlight - DLS IR8.3..... all I can say is These sound amazing. First off the mid and tweets are mounted in the kick, yet the image is ALMOST directly at eye level. Some TA? Or some tuning would pull it right up there. I was very impressed with the smooth transition between the tweet/mid/midb being ran through the passive xover they sounded great. I can only imagine what they'd sound like running active. He tuned his hp down to 50hz and sub off, played a few tracks from an SQ disc and even more amazing sound. The set provides a very flat response, no single frequencies seem out of place or over-exaggerated. From roughly 50hz and up it was just such an amazingly smooth sound. I would probably raise that freq. up to about 60 or so hz on this setup, but even at 50hz it didn't seem/sound like it was fatigued at all. It can definately be run that low as long as the doors/doorskin/and all panels are properly deadened.

All in all I give the 8.3's very high marks all around. Excellent sound quality.

I also gave a listen to my SLC's again from a slightly differnt perspective and am VERY leary of going with any other speaker in the price range at this time. The midbass is just fabulous on this set probably better than anything at this price point.... The tweeter may not be as smooth as others, but it is by no means harsh or rough. I am probably going to hang on to them and run them active with my 4150 after my new sub amp arrives

I don't know man, I just listened to them as if I was listening to them for the first time, and then hearing them against the IR's I still was happy with what I have in my car.... May actually try a hybrid system here shortly

My impressions:
SLC's.... AWESOME set of components for the money and with surprising midbass. Tweets aren't as nice as my DLS UP6 set but I'm sure throwing in another set of tweets in there will complete the setup...DON hook that post ***** up with some cal25's!!!
PARAG'S precious HX2's. These were VERY nice subs for hiphop/rap type of music...it was a perfect match with the ported box he had. DO NOT SEPERATE THESE TWO!! I found it's weak spot though...threw in good old RAKIM and the quick bass wouldn't let the HX2's keep up. From what it looks like parag listens to though it's a good match. I can't wait to hear his DLS SP12 when the new box comes in.

btw...you need a short shifter for the SE-R...the truck drivers on the interstate are laughing at your shift throws....

Hehehehe... Short shifter is on its way, anyday now...

As far as the HX2, Had I had it in a sealed box it def would have kept up better, but I agree, it didn't keep up at all with the quick notes in this configuration...

No doubt in my mind that you should go ported. I love the gain in output using a ported box, of course it can be boomy at times but with the proper box configuration it can still stay pretty accurate... for all out bass there is no other option
