FM reception on aftermaket radios

is the reception worst? I got a FM station that i listen to often and well it plays prefectly on the bose unit but i just switched to an alpine and i cant pick it up nicely. i wouldn't say this radio has the strongest signal but it has a great signal and i never had any problems with it. I'm driving the same streets and roads. Nothing wrong with the station as i'm listening to it at home on the radio. But my car lacks this station. My friend has the same problem on his RSX-S with bose that he installed a alpine on.

I do have a non-functional motor antenna but i always had that since day 1 of the car. possible that i did something wrong? I confirmed antenna adapter was right. Everything was hooked up minus the pink wire in the harness. All my other stations are great and strong.
