alright, so i've decided to replace the factory (non-BOSE) cd/tape combo in my 97 se. im getting the jvc kd-sh99 cd/mp3 HU: http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...KDSH99&o=M&a=0 i've found an amazing deal on it. that said....

should i replace all the interior factory speakers or should i go for a amp and 2 subs?? the jvc unit is supposed to make any car's factory speakers sound better. however, i dont want to buy some nice subs if the sound inside the cabin is doodoo. i was lookin at a pair of polk momo subs: http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...7MM120&o=M&a=0 any feedback is much appreciated.

Save your money. Don't buy the Polks. All you're paying for there is looks and the Momo name. Ther are much better subs out there for half the price. Personally, I would replace the front speakers and leave the rear factory ones in. You won't miss them. Depending on your budget, and the sound you want, my suggestion is do the interior speakers first. If you place a sub in the car with the factory speakers running off the HU, all you will get is muddy, muffled sound. Get the front speakers upgraded, find a cheaper sub, and get a 4 channel amp, and you will get a killer system.

I take the other side. I added a tube to my stock speakers after putting an aftermarket HU in, and the sound was so much better. The JVC will allow you to cut the bass to the speakers, which will clear them up, and the subs will replace those frequencies nicely. If you can afford a new set of front speakers, you will definitely be better off. I had no tweeters at all in my car with a sub and it sounded alright. It did get better with my Kappas and V12, but the increase wasnt as significant as when i added my sub.

thanks for the input fellas. when you say replace the front speakers, i assume you mean the front door panel speakers. the stock system includes the tweeters in the door, the fronts, and (i assume) 6x9's in the rear.
if i were to replace the fronts, what would you guys recommend? how bout for subs? thing is, when i get the subs, i want a nice custom box and everything and i see the cost of a decent amp and 2 10's or 12's along with the box rising to at least $500.

Wel, if your factory speakers have tweeters with it, you don't have to replace them.( Although I still would) If you want a custom box, I suggest the JL stealthbox. Pounds like a **** because of the 10W6 in it, plus it tucks neatly out of the way in the trunk. You can pick one up new for around $379-$400. Used, you can find some good deals. Just a thought anyway. There are a few good sub brands out there. I'd just shop around. As far as front speakers go, it really depends on your budget. Personally I recommend CDT, lower Focal lines,( www.zalytron.com has 2 ways for $99) and Diamond Audio. I personally don't care for MB Quart, but there are others that do. The rear speakers are the same as the front, 6.5 ( actually they are 6.75 or sometimes called an oversized 6.5.)
