Viper 771XV Remote Start Problem
Viper 771XV Remote Start Problem
Hey guys, when I put in my RS in the winter of 05, everything worked great. Last sumer everything was fine. With the exception of the remotes whoring the batteries up like mad. Anyways, now when it is warm outside, the car wont stay started. If I put the key in the ignition it starts and stays started, which makes me think that something is odd with the 556UW. Any ideas? Pretty standard install, just have trunk relay, and horn relay, and windows down relay too.
might be a tach line issue.. who installed it? easiest way would be to take it back to them.
Check the tach line, its either going to be a an ignition coil/injector under the hood, or behind the gauge cluster in your car. Might be at the ECU, i cant remember in a 5th gen whether or not you can get it there, ill let Don or Kevin chime in on that one.
How long does it stay started? just a second? a few minutes? It might be the key ring wire fallen out of place, but im thinking its the tach..

If its the tach line, then why does it stay started when the key is in the ignition? It stays started for like 5 seconds the first time, then upon second time doesn't even start. Makes me think that the 556UW isn't working.
If the 556U wasnt sending any signal, it wouldnt start at all; it would only crank.
Not sure whether the tach line is in fact at the ECU, Ive always gotten it at the cluster or under the hood. But either way, cpuguy, the tach wire to the alarm brain simply tells the brain when to power up the ignition harness wires, mainly to unlatch the relay powering up the starter wire once the engine is started. And it could very well be the problem.

Thats all it does is crank. It tries for like 10 seconds, stops then tries for another 10 or so. But when put the key in the ignition, not turn the key or anything, just slide it in the hole, then the remote start starts the car and everything works fine.
yea it definatly sounds like a transponder issue, probably the ring like don said. I dont know about you guys but i usually put a tiny ziptie to hold the ring in place and makes it fit to the keyhole a little better.

I always use a small zip tie. Works wonders for the future.
