Amp Recommendations?

I have a JL Audio W3D2 sub in a bandpass box, powered by a Sony XM2100GTX amp. The amp puts out only about 250w RMS to the sub, while the sub can hande up to 600w RMS without voiding warranty. I've been looking at Hifonics amps, but I'm not sure about the company. Any recommendations? I need the amp to be 600w RMS x 1 at 4ohms.

Why would you want to run one sub that high?

Im assuming by high you meant running it at 4 ohms. In which case, yes LTU, youd be better off dropping that ohm load down, or else youll be spending a ton of money for more power than youll ever be using.

I run my sub at 4 ohms, and push 1100+ wrms to it

LTU you won't void a warranty by putting additional power to your sub. It isn't like they are going to come and measure the amp or ask you what it is, and on top of that there is a gain adjustment on the amp to keep it within spec of what the sub would call for.

True, and Ill be running my subs at 4 ohms bridged as well, but I think itd be easier to find a cheaper 1 ohm stable mono than a good size 2 channel to bridge at 4 ohms. But he runs Sony Xplod and is looking at Hifonics...anything will be improvement, its all about future flexibility and what you want to do with your amps.

+1 that nobody is going to come inspect how much power you were feeding the sub.

Overpowering subs and using big power is what it is all about so def "+1 that nobody is going to come inspect how much power you were feeding the sub."

its harder to find a decent 1 ohm stable amp than it is to find one that does around 600ish at 4, IMO. On top of that, its better on your electrical system.

just get the jl 500/1 and that leaves room for upgrading later on, since it does 1~4 ohms at full power. That and you wont be overpowering the sub too much. Btw be carefull about overpowering subs you can only tune it so far before it starts distorting when its overpowered. Im not saying it cant be over powred because i can in most cases it will be fine, im just giving you a heads up. Just make sure its tuned properly.

500/1 is likely double the price of say a merlin amp that will put out say double the power..... hmm what would you chose?

So I'm thinking of buying this: http://cgi.ebay.com/HIFONICS-ZXi-600...QQcmdZViewItem

It has the 600w RMS I'm looking for and also has a remote to control the sub, which is really useful for me since I get the signal from my rear speakers. Anyone have any experience with these amps?

A lil better than decent mainstream I would say, I would take it over Infinity, RF, JL, Kenwood, Pioneer, etc. etc.

Very beastly for the $ per watt.

There's alotta people that would disagree. Their old school product is quite a bit better, however the new stuff does rated power and has alot of features....

disagree with which? the US amps or the others being decent mainstream? excluding JL for the most part (aside from being overpriced), the rest you've mentioned as far as amplifiers go are nothing to sneeze over.

Well....... this thing actually sounds very nice (this is with different types of music), and has nice output capability as well. I am very happy with this sub....thinking it's the one that will stay in there . I turned the gains down some on my amp as it is not rated for what my sub amp can put out. Compared to the other subs I've owned, it is a more well rounded sub....meaning it sounds good, and gets loud (at least loud enough for me).

I ran a 12w3 on a 250/1 in a slot ported box and was nice, or use the 500/1 or find the old pheonix gold xeon series amps, rated at 1-4ohms like JL

I'm assuming that's a 15w3v2? To me the the choice would only be a PPI amp. I like clean things though not just the over exagerated output that most companies are still advertising. I doubt you really need that much power I've got a 12w6v2 granted in a sealed box (sound quality) and my PPI 800.5 which is only like 400w into 2 ohms and I can easily overpower the sub.

Not the brand new stuff but about 2 years old. The numbers on it were cleaner than all the other amps I looked at. Plus I needed a 5 channel amp. Which now days is almost impossible to find. Used to buy Phoenix Gold back in the day till they went to crap. I have yet to see an amp run as clean as the PPI run MB components and a 12W6v2 all day long and not even get hot in an enclosed area with next to no ventilation.

2yrs old PPI is still when they had crap, youll need to back date at Least 6 yrs..

If your happy with it, then thats great, just stating the facts here bud.
